How much is an M3 worth?

Looking to sell my M3 coupe, 2004 (04), SMG, xenons, tv/sat nav, 18in alloys, CD changer 16k miles - anyone any idea how much a BMW dealer would give me for this (no trade in just a straight sale) or how much I would get for it privately? Thoughts much appreciated

guy at work just got offered £28k as a part ex against a 335i for an almost identical car

colour and trim?.... which will make a BIG difference

not really, most have leather and unless its seca blue or yellow then they are probably all worth the same

From my view point Phoenix is a big plus point! (Seca less so...as I personally just don't like the colour).

As far as I'm concerned in now considering an E46 M3...which is all but a 'has been' model...'Phoenix' represents the quintessential colour...just as Dakar did for the E36.

Therefore, against a WALL of silver, blue, black and grey this is THE only colour that will stand the test of time...

Nah, its horrible looks like urine yellow metallic, most of the original press cars were imola red. Besides the M3 is all about discrete performance - painting it in a lairy colour has always been bad taste imho.

Go onto www.bm3w.co.uk (you'll need to register) and then into teh 2trading post" section and then you'll find a "valuation" section.

They'll want to know all the following data to get an accurate quote...

> Number of owners
> Is the car a UK car or an import
> Does it have BMW Warranty, if so, how much longer to run.
> Is it Manual or SMG
> Which factory fitted options does it have, SatNav / Tv Etc
> Is it a Coupe or a Convertible
> When was its last major service, and when is the next one due?
> Tyre Conditions
> Private / BMW Dealer / Other deal sale
> Price that you have already been quoted.

Highly unlikely to give the same on an outright buy. Dealers work to within strict margin guidelines and part-ex value is based not only on the car that is being chopped in but also on what you are buying. General rule-of-thumb is if you are buying a new car there is more room to manoevre on the part-ex (because there is more profit built into the new vehicle) but there are so many variables at work that it can differ quite a lot from dealer to dealer. If you are looking to only sell the car to a dealer, you will get severely hammmered as there is little incentive for them and you are unlikely to be a repeat customer to them. Bear in mind that the longer you leave it on the M3, the steeper the depreciation curve is going to get, with a new model on the way next year. I just chopped my 30k mile '04 SMG fully loaded silver grey M3 in on a CSL (much rarer and demand is still strong) for this very reason. Came out with £26500 on the M3 which I didn't like but accepted as better than being stuck with a car which is about to freefall in value. Over the 2 1/2 years I owned my M3 the depreciation worked out at roughly £450/month. I decided that there was little prospect of getting a much better figure selling privately and it could have resulted in the warranty having to be renewed at £1050 / year and waiting months to sell. Remember depreciation still continues relentlessly and two months sitting about waiting to be sold equates to another £1000 lost. Depreciation is something which none of us like but it is a fact of life and un-avoidable.

depends what you are buying, other offer was against a 335i coupe which no dealers will move on by more than £500 odd at present

Thanks - agreed it's easier to sell it to a dealer as long as they are prepared to give a respectable price (i.e. i'll accept a discount to take out the hassle factor etc). you got £26,500 for yours and it had covered 30k miles so maybe I wont be miles off with only 16k on the clock. Will be very sad to see it go, it is just the most awesome car I have owned and just perfect. The best car buying decision of my life....

ok, dont know if you have found the car you want yet - but in your situation I would speak with Dick Lovett in Swindon as they operate 2 large bmw dealerships and 2 porsche dealerships and are always keen to do a deal.

I'm actually hoping it stays disliked by the market long enough for me to have sold enough of my current collection to make way for one!

These cars could hardly have ever been described as "subtle"...more like a total hooligan's car?

And wasn't the first colour the E36 M3 released in Dakar?...I'm sure that was the colour used in the Sunday newspaper mag ads back when it first came out?

For me the M3 has always been a more in-your-face kind of car from BMW's line-up...whilst it was the M5 that was the more discrete, mature offering?

Anyway, what I should be saying is: "Yeah! Phoenix?...That colour is disgusting! I reckon in about a year's time any M3 in Phoenix is only going to be worth £7K max! And that's for really top, low mileage examples...anything less than top quality will be virtually worthless!"

There is a certain 'Something' about Pheonix yellow..... needs 19"'s and Kiwi Leather for total bling though
