My m3 is a SMG with a sat/nav and tv comms unit, when arriving to work i spilt sum of my water over the tv screen and around the gear stick (smg unit) within about a minute the music stopped playing and the comms unit turned off, also my smg idication bar (the bar with the 5 settings on your dash) now appeared to have a 6th bar which was flashing. I tried to start the engine but got a rapid clicking noise with the idications on my dash going on and off with the clicks aswell as my headlights, the engine just wouldnt turn over. i thought i may have got sum wetness into the elctrics so gave it 45 mins to dry out alittle and tried to start the car again, same results.....also when half turning the key to on, the lights on the dash light up as per usual but the ABS light starts to fade out and then come back on. Ive called bmw and they just said get it recovered and brought in. problem for me is my warranty is out by a year and im worried this could get expensive, i mean water isnt going to damage ur gearbox or ur engine so its definetly in my eyes an electrical issue but how time consuming and expensive could this be? and should i take it to bmw or should i maybe try use a local car electrition?? im thinking bmw because they have a fault diagnosis machine that maybe could pinpoint the problem instantly?? or is that wrong? whaat should i do?
has this happened to anyone else??
any help would be greatly appriciated!

Sounds like you've created a short that has drained the battery. My 330ci had the same thing, caused by the carphone. You might get lucky and only need a battery recharge once all is dried out.

No it didnt work when dried out. car is now sitting at a bmw dealership about to be looked at this morning and hooked up to a fault diagnostics machine. its odd though because i tried jumping it too with no success, but when it got lowered off the back of the recovery truck when being taken to bmw i tried to start it and it did, i drived it into the workshop part of the dealership and parked it up, but about 10 mins later when returning to car to pick up sum things from the boot before i left it and went home i tried the ignition again and the car was dead. Obviously an electrical fault but how serious i have no idea. Anyway i will know later, hopefully though it will only turn out to be a blown fuse or something......but then that wouldnt explain the car starting when lowered of the recovery truck?? ahhh i dont know! lol.
All will soon be revealed.

A sobering lesson - don't drink and drive!

Hope it gets sorted.
