i was just finishing valeting the m3, ready to be (reluctantly) sold, when i tried to start her, and...

"ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack-ack" (nearly like TIG welder or strong, yet regular arcing sound!)

it sounded like the starter was spinning, but not engaging... I tried rolling it in gear, and even quickly starting it in gear to nudge anything stuck, but no joy...

the car is VERY low mileage, pretty much concourse, and has been perfect since i owned her

anyone got any ideas before i get her moved? (she's kept off-road in an awkward location).

i'm pretty competant with the spanners, although no professional.

maybe she doesn't want to leave...

Sounds like a starter motor solenoid. Go to an inde or an automotive electrician if you don't want to pay dealer prices.
