No they don't because they were taken with my camera phone.

I'd generally agree with Doctor D until you put the roof down on a roadster which evens things up in the looks department, particularly in a lighter colour such as grey.

Having said that, I bought a Z4M Roadster in Interlagos blue, so what do I know?

I agree with you Jason. I always felt the need to lower the roof, because (a) it looked far better that way, and (b) why else have a roadster? I know many people who drive roadsters/convertibles with their roofs up however I always felt compelled to drive top-down. The problem for me was that there was perhaps 1 day out of 100 when that was the ideal way to drive.

The perfect day was warm (+18 degrees), minimal wind, hazy (or no) sunshine and a route well away from other traffic. More often it was either cold, or if warm it was also sunny and therefore I ended up with a baked head (and a mild dizzy feeling as a consequence). Driving in traffic, particularly on a motorway was a recipe for a headache and at the end of the journey my ears were ringing and I generally needed a rest.

I had some great drives in a roadster, Nurburgring on a snowy March afernoon (if you remember the EVO article last spring when we first group tested the Z4M) and I still remember the drive back from Germany where I staunchly refused to raise the hood until we reached Belgium (bleedin noisy autoroutes!). Another great day was a drive through bedfordshire and northamptonshire on the b-roads back from work; 20 degrees, no sunshine and all the other noddys were using the motorways so I had the road all to myself...

I guess I find that I have more enjoyable days roof-up than down.

Having just taken delivery of a Z4M Roadster I'd vote for the Roadster. Yes, the Coupe looks meaner, but when that sun shines it takes just over 8 seconds to get the top down...

Performance wise they seem pretty similar, and as the Z4 isn't exactly a 'slack' car in roadster form, the extra strength from the coupe isn't noticable in real world driving.
