RS4 - toweringly competent (if that's possible?) but still lacking a little in soul IMO. Audi have got nearer the target with it though I think.
I agree, but anyone reading this who has not already driven an RS4 would probably believe that makes the RS4 flawed or not in the same class as an M3. I actually found quite a lot of soul in the RS4, but it took me more than a thousand miles to find it. At one point I had a run in with a Ferrari 355 GTB and the RS4 basically beat it, time and again (during a 60 mile stretch between Granada and Malaga. The RS4 sounded awesome (really M-Division quality) and pulled like a train revving hard to its red-line in every gear. It's just a shame there isn't as much soul to its chassis, but engine/transmission wise Audi have definitely built a cracker of a car.

Autocar say they'll be publishing a review on this Friday 6th...
Interesting to see that Mercedes are launching the C63 AMG to the press a couple of days before. Its gonna be a good week....
Or possibly a very bad week if you've already put your money down on an M3 smile
Why?

Because the Autocar review is not too impressed with it...

But of course the Top Gear review is, and you've already heard me being positive.

We met with Sutters and Chris Harris whilst there and they seemed to enjoy themselves, so expect a good review when published.

The article in EVO will be a big one (c. 17 pages) so prepare for a good read and a pithy conclusion.
I for one will be much more interested in the full EVO test than Autocar's who seem to be dislaying a pattern of producing almost advertising standard raves on any hot new model with their first test before gradually becoming more grounded and objective as months pass - much to the annoyance of anyone who based their buying decision on their first report I imagine. I may be biased though.wink Safe to say you had a positive experience then Dr?

From past reviews I think you should be looking at EVO mag who almost allways declare the car that is advertised heavly in their mag that normally gets their thumbs up..where other mags like Autocar, Car tend to focus on more performance, handling and overall package of a car.
