Bought one!
Flew down to London yesterday and hired a car so I I could drive about a bit and look at a few. Went to the Schnitzer one 1st and it was not great and was dismissed quickly, drove a red one at another dealer but the Vanos was knacked and it was top money! Then I viewed a black private one, it was a 98 R with 38K miles with 50% BMW history, 50% Audi main dealer history (strange but true!). Car is pretty much minted, certainly as good as I could reasonably expect a near 10 y/o car to be. It is completely standard apart from AC Schnitzer pedals and a blacked out grill. It has a very nice black leather electric interior and a good hood. Drives very well, not as quick as my old 3.6 996 but if revved sufficiently it's not a million miles off. The Vanos seems quiet and has all but one service lights on which matches up with the last booked service at 35K.
All in all happy so far with my new toy.
One question though for other evo owners. What point after starting up does your oil light go out. It seems to take a few seconds on this one going out around the same time as the service lights go out.
