had my m3 for a month now and i want to re-map the car but

which company shall i trust and which to avoid?
i see companies quoting 20-30bhp and then others quoting 15bhp.
what is the truth? is it worth it or best to save more cash for other bits?
what have you lot done to make the car quicker?

A remap will not make your car any quicker in the real world. It might have an impact on the way it feels in certain parts of the rev range, and give a very small improvement in the numbers on a rolling road, but out on the road it will really add very little in my experience, and is not worth the money.

Most E46 M3's sit between 325 and 340 bhp anyway, so you are not starting with a level playing field either. The S54 lump is tuned pretty close it its maximum anyway, and the CSL has a completely different induction system to give it an on paper increase of 17bhp, so it is highly unlikely that a man with a laptop is going to find 30bhp, though he might get it from 325 to where you think it is today...

so is there other performance parts that are worth doing?
and when you say that the engine has power output from 325 to 340 does that mean that if a tuner was to remap an engine that proudces 325 he will be able to get the car back to the 338bhp figure quoted? plus the additnal 15bhp from the map ontop?

There are a lot of claims about people being able to add 30+ bhp to a E46 M3 engine just with a chip re-map.. I've never yet seen a dyno graph that proves one chip can do all that.

Your engine will be somewhere between 320 - 340 any modificiation will just add to that. You won't recover the loss between what your car produces and the manufactures quoted specs thats just down to differences in the engines.

hi mate, i had the remap-chip-change, and after there was no mistaking you could feel the difference, but the clutch was slipping, immediately after and was slipping until i sold the car 6 months later, so could the clutch cope with the extra power or was this a coincident, if it was a coincident, why didn't the clutch go within a few weeks, personally i would not do it again as i was using to much fuel and driving it much harder, if you want to go faster, buy a GT3 RS, all the best, nick........
