Guys, only days to go until Fighting Torque - a drag racing day for standard 'supercars'. I'd like more M cars there if possible. The TVR Cerbera will be the benchmark. So far we're getting a load of excuses as to why some high performance marques won't come along, are any of you guys up for it? Ideally looking at the V10 M5/M6 crowd, but we have an M5 E39 running, and also a 'chipped' 335d with over 500lbft of torque.

Saw a 320i touring clear 1/4m in 17s at Santa Pod last Sunday.

Pretty impressive - I had bet on around 20s!

What would a Cerbera do? 12s? 13s?

Are the BMW and TVR diffs/trans/etc up to that kind of treatment? - There's so much grip on the start.

I would never try it in my M3!

The fastest TVR Cerbera with standard engine internals is 11.9 @ 119 - it was a 4.5. I've only run my 4.2 once at the pod and it did 12.4 @ 115mph. Most Cerbs do 12.5 - 13 secs or so.

There's no harm in finding out how an M3 would fare - there is a very diverse entry list as it stands, so it would be a great benchmarking day for any M car as far as stright line performance goes!!

see www.fightingtorque.org for details, although there are numberous threads also running on the Cerbera forum here on PH. You can register on the site to see confirmed runners - there is no requirement to race if you just want to register - its worth a look around. There are cars coming that would be a good match for any M car, from M3 through to new M5/M6.

In reply to the title of the thread i'd say no BUT given a rolling start an M3 will give a 4.2 a decent run for it's money.....just ask Touching Cloth wink

I very much doubt that a std M3/5/6 would out run a TVR Cerb over the 1/4 mile. Those Cerbs are giant killers aren't they?

Yeah, similar stuff but over 3/4 mile as oppose to a mile. Come on guys, surely there are some of you with the new M5/M6 that fancy your chances??? wink

I doubt a Cerbera could keep up with an M5/M6 over any distance.

I'm struggling here. The quote seems to say that a Cerbera would outrun an M car over a 1/4 mile.

Hang on a minute. I hardly think either of Phil's two cerbs are representative powerwise of the average cerb that left Blackpool?

I've owned M3/M5, Chimaera, Griffith, Cerbera (4.2) and I think a good M5/M6 will give a Cerbera a run for its money.

So much depends on the specific car - for instance - I know my current M5 would take my old cerbera - mainly because the M5 is a 'good one' and the Cerbera wasnt!

Also (obviously!) so much depends on the driver!

Driver and assuming all cars were running as they should I think 4.2 Cerbs could be 50:50 with the M's. 4.5 Cerbs should take out most heavy cars though!

The older car is. Running around 420bph these days. Quite a lot of tickled Cerbs are over the 400bhp mark now.
