im sorry i didnt quite understand your post. Are you suggesting that the E60 M5 is a no good car?
Sorry is it me to respond?, I am not saying the M5 is not without doubt a powerhouse and very fast bus, BUT it has inherent problems with the Vanao's (Valve train) in particular, buy one outside the warantee period is a "lottery".
This
Will explain a bit of it.

Your link is to an E39 forum (i.e. the previous 5 series), not the current E60. The only BMW that has a reputation for going through Vanos units is the E36 M3 Evo, not any of the M5s.

Yes E39 VANOS cause big problems on the E60 M5. Thanks for the tip.

Good that Audi's have no problems with the RS series though you can rest easy John.

I believe he's referring to the problem exclusive to Spanish cars.

This is great news for me as it means I'll be able to buy a 6 year old model with less than 100,000 miles on it for £15k (e34 and e39 were at similar levels at the same age).

EDC parts are cheaper for the E60/61 than they are on the e34 as well.
You'de better have another 15K for repairs put to one side .
Ah yes, Audi John, the man who has eyes only for Audi and can see no wrong with them. The man who takes every opportunity he can to make a dig at BMW, often in BMW forums, but mostly on his beloved Audi forums where he is surrounded with other like minds, who all giggle and pass jokes at the expense of BMW. Never get BMW forums spending all their time dicussion Audi....I wonder why?

Its a sign MTorque is down at the moment if he is in here posting on the BMW forums. He will of course try to come across as objective, level of head and open of mind, but to sample his true colours you need to read some of his posts on the Audi forums. I say this as a former BMW owner, and an Audi owner of past AND present!

We love you Johny boy, keep it up..

I've never heard of an E60 with the 'inherent' problem of Vanao's? The earlier M3's and some E39 M5's suffered with VANOS failures apparently but the E60 M5 V10 is a totally different engine?

I brought an M5 in the end as the endless power and handling just couldn't be matched by anything from Audi or Mercedes having driven all they had to offer.

Sorry mate, but you're listed as a chief engineer on your profile and you can't spell warranty? confused

What do you build; sand-castles? hehe

youve now referred me to an E39 M5 issue,of which im more than aware.Im hopefully getting out of a E46M3 and into an E60M5 soon and was a little shocked by your comment regarding the vanos reliability.Im a member of many bmw forums and am constantly looking at various threads regarding E60M5 ownership, and must say after searching hundreds possibly thousands of threads over the last few months ive found no major vanos issues faced by owners,at most ive seen vanos solenoid valves needing replacement. The worst issue ive heard on the M5 so far is gearbox replacement, and that was only one case.

The M5 is a masterpiece of engineering. There is only one fault imo and that is the bloody fuel tank!!
