Anybody aware that two M5's have recently changed hands for in excess of 12K. E39's look cheap in comparison!

One was an Avus Blue car, two owners and 72 K miles and the second one was an LE.....keep hold of yours and do it up and who knows you may be sitting on a fortune!

It doesn't surprise me at all as there seem to be so few really good ones left.

I can't remember the last time I saw a really tempting one come up for sale.

Thus, as happens with all such cars, the dogs at the bottom end of the market become almost worthless whilst the value of really good ones goes through the roof!

The problem with buying at the £3k end of the market is that you know you'll have to spend another £3k to get it back to nominal. I put mine in to get some stuff done and my very trustworthy southern spanner monkey is finding lots that really needs doing before the nice to have stuff.

At least I'll have a car I know will need nothing other than general maintenance for the next few years woohoo

If you buy a £12k one then you'd expect to have to spend very little in the first couple of years (but there's no guarantee wink )

Out of interest, does anyone know or have a rough estimate how many E34 M5s came to the UK both 3.6 and 3.8?

I'd still love to have a really nice one (either either specification) but fear I may have missed the boat now?

From 1989 to 1995 BMW UK sold 696 E34 M5s. Obviously not that many left now.

Source: http://bmwe34m5.com

I have one of them wink

Hmmm...that's really not that many is it?

I think I really have missed the boat! frown

I was stupid...I really like these cars...I even came close (as in money in my pocket ready to hand over for a LHD one advertised locally that I was excited about having read the description on the internet but which turned out not to live up to expectations).

There was a very low mileage LE in Orinoco a while back (at a high price admittedly) but space etc precluded...I should have just bought it at the time! banghead

Ah well....

For RHD markets, there were 524 3.6 M5's produced from 89-91
For RHD markets, there were 343 3.8 M5's produced from 91-95

Touring M5's 3.8 LHD only, 891 produced from 92-95

Left on the roads in the UK today probably only 120 3.6's and 90 3.8's max.

Interesting...for some reason I always imagined there were more 3.8s than 3.6!

As said...I wouldn't mind either. There's just something about them that really appeals to me!

Family man question now...Did most come as full 5 seaters or 4 seaters?

Obviously, with three kids the full 5 seaters are going to be an easier proposition to 'sell' to my wife!

Thanks for the info on numbers.

LOL@Vixpy!laugh

Ok...does anyone know anything about these two? First one has dodgy wheels but nt really a problem as I have a proper fully refurbed set of M-Tech II 'Throwing Stars' to go straight on:

Second one is this...a lower mileage 3.6L, no N'Ring Suspension to bite my wallet but obviously an older car:

What do ya reckon to either of these?

Thanks, Vixpy...where's that thread? I'd like to read it. Not that it should make too much difference as I'm always prepared to travel anywhere but that car's not too far from me.

I wish I'd hadn't started reading this thread! laugh

Derin,

This is what you are looking for:

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I've just bought the 3.6 you'll see smattered over the last few pages.

It was cheap, as it needs a respray to be mint (but then again they all will at this age) and it needs a couple of other things doing to it.

However, as I intend to use it every day, I didn't see the point in spunking three times as much on a minter, which in all liklihood could develop problems owing to lack of use...

'Tis a lottery with these things.

My advise is to buy from someone who is well known in the owners clubs etc. That's what I did and had the chap not had 5 crazy Alpinas as well as the M5, I wouldn't have bought it.

The early 3.6's came with 4 seats, but many 3.6's and all of the 3.8's came with five seats, plus belts.

@ Derin100

There may not be many left to buy, but owners are always selling due to them realising they can't afford to run it - so keep looking.

A second LE (Orinocco Green) one of 35 ever made....1995 LE 3.8 has also just sold for around 9K. The facts are simple.....spend some money on the car and sell it for a decent price, cut corners and it will NOT sell.
