Lee post something up on the M5board.com for sale section and also on PistonHeads. These are the two best ways to sell your car and tell us about history, recent bills, interior condition plus photos.

Although we do have a habit of pulling every car for sale to pieces (verbally, not literally).

You need to drop your price by about £600, put up a photo of the interior, mention more about the FULL SERVICE HISTORY, number of previous owners, EDC issues (any new dampers), Cam rebuilds, number of water pumps, timing chain issues and cat / exhaust issues.

A nice 3.8 LE with full history and huge bills will only get 9K and that has well under a 100K mileage!!!

Hmmm...that's really not that many is it?

I think I really have missed the boat! frown

I was stupid...I really like these cars...I even came close (as in money in my pocket ready to hand over for a LHD one advertised locally that I was excited about having read the description on the internet but which turned out not to live up to expectations).

There was a very low mileage LE in Orinoco a while back (at a high price admittedly) but space etc precluded...I should have just bought it at the time! banghead

Ah well....

Hi Derin,

I think I know that car and have driven it - I was going to take it in px against an Alpina B10 but as you say it was not as described. Not a bad car I thought, but too expensive for what it is.

I have a black RHD 3.8 M5 in my garage that I've owned for 6 years. I've been thinking about selling it as its been pretty much unused for 18 months, but it does need some work to bring it back to its former glory. Its only had 2 owners and done a genuine 70k miles though, so well worth doing.

Send me an email if its of interest.

I did say that I'd never sell it, but realistically it'll probably remain in my garage for the next 5 years too!

Cheers,
Bryn.

Once I've cleared the decks here a little of my excess number of cars I'd like to come up and take a look at the (and all your others for that matter!)...and as you it's only up the road for me.

I don't mind doing a bit of work and as ASBO said having paintwork done and generally spending a bit of money to get the car really nice again but as you said that particular LHD we're talking about really wasn't what I was expecting from the description or even photos...and certainly not at the price that was being asked.

Thankfully, it was so close that I was able to go and see it and drive it because I almost 'blind bid' on it whilst it was on Ebay and probably would have had it been further away! yikes

If you're not in a hurry to sell I'll be in touch.

Thanks Bellair for the info on the seating configurations.

Hi Derin,

I'm not in any rush at all, I don't really want to sell it but its a waste sitting in the garage!

One of the main things that put me off selling it is that at the price it would be likely to achieve on ebay it would almost certainly fall in to the hands of someone who wouldn't look after it, and after it being such a good car to me I would hate to see that happen.

You're just the kind of new owner who I'd like it to go to.

My friend owned it before me from when it was 18 months old, and its also the only RHD 3.8 I've ever seen in black with black leather.

Cheers,
Bryn.

I posted this one on the other thread - any comments from the M Power regulars?

http://search.autotrader.co.uk/es-uk/www/cars/BMW+...

Thought it looked good but a bit pricey. Anything I should be wary of? Trying to arange a look this Saturday.

Cloth trim a no-no?

IT'S NOT CLOTH, IT'S SYNTHETIC SUEDE WITH MOTORSPORT CLOTH WOVEN WITH ALCANTARA.

Looks good, popular colour though, and I love the alcantara interiors (my old one was the lighter version of this) as they wear much better than leather, they're easier to clean, and they grip better in the corners. It's the last of the line 1995 models (which are rarer than the LE models) and has all the bells & whistles - big wheels, big brakes, etc.

Prices are always negotiable, so check the history carefully for major work - note that it says all dampers have been replaced, so the ride should be pliable over bumps and firm through corners.

Find out who's done the work since it last went to a dealer (assuming it left the dealer network as soon as the warranty could no longer be extended), and whether they're a member of any of the board (so that you can see their postings about car troubles).

Other than that, I'd say get an inspection done from someone you trust if you're not technically able yourself - it's around Oxford/Swindon way, and I'm sure there are a few experts who would be willing to help for some beer vouchers.

Overall looks good and a reasonable price, can't see you getting much off that price unless you find some rust, corrosion, bits missing or dodgy service history. If that had been around when I was looking, it would have been top of my list.

I would look out for rust around the bootlid, check the inside edges of the tyres for suspension issues, check the EDC switch and drive the car on both S(Sport) and (P) Program. P should allow the suspension to move more fluidly. Also ask about the exhaust....has the cat ever been replaced, if not you may well be looking at £800 or more. Finally how many owners, copies of all bills, MOT's and v5's? Price looks fair but watch out these cars can be very expensive!!

S is the harder mode, P is the adaptive setting - or S for stiff and P for pansy wink

Yes, it's a direct translation from the hardcore Bayerische version of the handbook wink

S sets the dampers in their firmest position, P allows for subtle changes to how the car corners and rides.....S is firmer but set, P allows for flexibility and performance of the damper when driving much faster if that makes sense. I find the car faster in P than S, due to the EDC's ability to change how the car rides according to my driving style. I keep the car is S when driving normally.
