Hi guys,

I have been reading all the topics regarding M3s, CS, CSLs and all of the information is really helpful. The Pistonheads members are by far the best and most helpful I have come across compared with all the other M3 forums.

My situation is that in 12 months time I will be selling my house, which has risen a lot in value, and I will be buying a house further away form London and will have money left over to treat myself to one of these bad boys. I know it's 12 months, but I want to know as much as possible by the time it comes to buying. Most likely gonna get a >2004 M3 SMG.

There are a few things I am looking to find out about the M3, which I haven't been able to find through reading the posts:

1. What is the M3 SMG like off the line in SMG/Auto mode when you put the foot down in comparison with a manual and just dropping the clutch at high revs? i.e. Is there any lag?

2. Has anyone had their standard M3 chipped and how much HP gain is there. One site suggested 20HP at a cost of £789. How noticable is the difference and does it void any BMW warranty?

3. How good is the TV reception when driving (for passenger use of course!) in a good area and are you screwed when they switch to a digital signal or are there digital converters?

4. Are there any generic problems that M3s tend to have throughout all the models?

Once again, thanks guys. I know it is a while before I get one, but all help is definitely appreciated.

Peace out.

Karl

1) Quick, but there i find there is a bit of lag compared to a manual

2) You will get 10bhp tops, and thats with a custom remap on a dyno by someone who knows what they are doing. People claim they can load a map straight on and get 20bhp. they can't

3) Its ok, 2004 should have digital reciever in anyway

4) SMG's tend eat diffs, rear trailing arm bushes fail. rear springs snap. Vanos canm fail, but its fairly rare.
