The rubber perishes cos of the amount of heat they have to endure.
Give one a squeeze after a good run and I bet you lick your fingers and give little blows of breath on them like your granny used to after pulling out her tray of scones.

I recently bought a new one and it seems a lot more substantial. Almost as through it has the wire weave through the rubber to aid rigidity.

I just replaced the breather hoses on mine. The old rubber was very very soft. Old ones pulled off very easilly but the new ones took a bit more effort to get on, so I guess they lose strength over time.

Parts from a main dealer were around £10 each, and it was around a 10 minute job to do them both even for someone like me (think office based job...) wink

Likewise, recently done my breather hoses as both of the old ones were really soft and no substance left to the rubber.

Also did the oil seprators as well, but mine were pretty clean inside.
