m3 e46 rattling under light/meduim loads... opinions please!

Hi,
I just joined recently and first would like to say hello to everyone. I have recently bought a e46 m3 and have noticed that i get a loud clicking/rattling sound when a i accelerate on light to meduim throttle. It does not make any noise at full throttle and drives perfect.
I have read alot on vanos noise but dont have the normal symptons. Car is quite at idle and when started cold there are no rattling noises and they only get noticable when oil is warmed up.
Been to a couple of independant specialist's and they have not been conclusive, as some have said it was pinking and others did'nt have a clue. I run car on v power and power feels fine and if it was pinking why would oil temp make a difference?
Had diagnostic checks and nothing apart from egt sensor which i have replaced. Also have changed timing chain tensioner as car has done 100k.
One indy said it was my icv which was stuck and was not letting my knock sensors work which did not make sense to me as car starts and idles perfect.
I can hear the clicking from around 1500 rpm and it is loudest at around 3.5-4000 rpm and is most noticable in 3rd gear onwards.
Please if u have had similiar issues/or any experience put me out of my misery as i love the car but this noise is quite loud and can be easily heard with windows up.
