If you want to save some money then I also believe E34 540's can tow more weight than M5's (read it somewhere, forget where).

My '94 E34 3.8 M5 will be up for sale within a week or so, it's a saloon not a touring so if you have your heart set on a touring then it's no good for you but the saloons do have a big boot!
Mine has just turned 100k miles, full BMW service history (5 green lights still on, last service was 97k miles). I have replaced the expensive front EDC shocks about a year ago for brand new items (2000 miles ago). All the usual toys plus electric memory seats, individual climate control, cruise control and has the 9" rear wheels. Most importantly, mine also has the factory fit removable tow bar.
I'm looking for £5995.

Drop me a message if interested, photo in my profile.

Hi Charlie, was gonna bring the M5 over and see what she's putting down but as I'm selling it doesn't seem much point. Seat of the pants dyno reckons it's not far off the money. I might bring my track car over now it's on the road. It's a stripped out, caged and modded E36 Evo, it'll be good to check it out before any serious track work and to see if it will beat my old M Roadster.
You sorted your M5 yet?
