I assume it is a 'Imola Individual' and not the GT? It is worth a bit more I think but mechanically they are identical to the Evo but all specced up, red paint, interior etc...
They are nice but it's the earlier GT which can attract a premium. Damn nice cars though!!
Thanks for that, I am viewing the car later hopefully, it is red so it would seem you could be correct. It's a friend of friend so car spec hasn't been advertised. They are nice but it's the earlier GT which can attract a premium. Damn nice cars though!!

Having owned an E30 M3 the Evo didn't excite in the same way.
I heard the GT is a bit more of a drivers car (and hopefully abit more like the E30).
I also like some of the details on the GT and the rarity. the only advantage I see the evo having is 20BHP more and even that is questionable as people tell me that not many evos make the 321bhp figure.
Either way for what they cost all E36 M3's are great value.

The e36 m3GT had aluminium doors, lightweight bits and bobs and I think the suspension & arb set up is different.
Also, the engines where hand picked from the last of the 3.0 units and only the very strongest were used, then specced up a bit with a different cam set up with power upped from 280 to about 304 or something like that. Inside they have alcantara suede seats with green leather inserts with black wood trim. On the outside they are all green. They also have the adjustable front splitter that pulls out and retracts from under the front bumber and a high level rear spoiler.
The GT2 is a tarted up Evo in imola red built at the end of the e36s production run as a final special edition.

The GT was a limited run special and is a very nice car..
A lot of the changes that went into the EVO were tried out in the GT first.
So if you can get a straight GT then go for it but with only 50 built I'd be surprised if one turns up..
The GT2 was a cosmetic only limited edition to run out the model. It's not worth anything over the stock Evo.. Unless you happen to like the colour more.. BMW just traded on the "GT" badge hoping that people would believe it was a genuinely special car as the original GT had been.

The GT is a nice bit of kit and is certainly the 'sharpest' of the E36's out of the box. However, if it's a GT you want, then a LHD example should be on your shopping list as these drive a lot better than the RHD cars (this applies to all E36's). They do attract a price premium though, which is hard to overlook if you consider that the faster Evo can be made to drive better with a few suspension upgrades for less than the cost of a standard GT.Also, the engines where hand picked from the last of the 3.0 units and only the very strongest were used, then specced up a bit with a different cam set up with power upped from 280 to about 304 or something like that. The GT2 on the other hand is just a run-out special with all the toys. It is mechanically identicle to the 'normal' Evo and IMO not worth the bother. I also happen to think it looks bloody horrible in dog knob red, but that's all down to personal taste I guess

Thanks for the replies. Very useful info, the guy seemed to be under the impression (or trying to put me under the impression) that it was different to the normal Evo and worth more. I will be viewing it as a normal Evo.

Evos aren't rated to 321bhp, it's 321PS which is 316bhp - it's a mistake in the BMW literature.
They did the same with the 328i, the BMW print rates it at 193bhp whereas it is actually 193PS.
Thats new to me...They did the same with the 328i, the BMW print rates it at 193bhp whereas it is actually 193PS.
I thought that BMW always wanted to be the clever-dicks to break the 100bhp/litre barrier which they did with 321bhp...
