what are my options?
a.my car is 03 30K fBMWsh (but out of warranty), so go to the dealer and rant until they offer some goodwill...
b. cough up £350+ to replace at a dealer & get 2yrs warranty on them
c. any other NON-lowering brand which does not snap as easy???? anyone?

Not interested in lowring so Eibachs, H&R etc not an option.....

I wouldn't be paying £350+ for a pair of rear springs, i'd after market.

But i'd fit them myself so would have to factor in fitting.

Could try someone like http://www.dfaulknersprings.co.uk/  for them. Although they make race srings i'm sure they could make anything up.

Doubt you'll get any joy going to the dealer. A friends rear spring snapped at about 18,000 miles and he got nowhere.

Get a quote from a decent indy, they should be much less than the figure you've been given.

A set of rear springs from BMW are £150, and it takes 30 mins to change both sides.

£200 max at an indy.

I believe Eibach do make standard springs for M cars as they are "lower' than the standard car. Give em a call, see what they do, they are nice people. If you jack the rear high enough and loosen the shock bolt in the turret they will fall out. You may need to replace the rubber damper in the cup as the broken spring may have chaffed it through.

interesting I was wondering if you can get 'standard' alternatives since if I fit BMW again likely they will break again...thx

Common problem. Have they been changed before and, potentially, still under warranty?

This happens to all e46 bmw's weather a 316 or m3 its the cars biggest weak point and something i make a point of looking for when mot'ing them as the springs are pretty well hidden in the rear arm. I did an m3 a couple of weeks ago worked out just over £250 all in with genuine Bmw springs.
