anybody got a nice m3 for sale?
Discussion
alsheikh, my earlier point stands, irregardless of all the people who pop out of the woodwork in such threads with tales of doom and gloom. If it's an AUC car in good condition, then you have nothing to worry about it. If it's a private sale, check whether there's a warranty on it,that the car looks in good shape, the owner is an enthusiast with knowledge and an obvious love for the car and again, there's nothing to worry about beyond the normal highs and lows that M3 ownership brings.
I'm sure that Mr x whose entire engine imploded 3 feet from the forecourt in a 2k miler, or the individuals with endless advice who have yet to set foot in the car will do their best to put you off. Just go in with your eyes open, use the search function over at mtorque to answer every conceivable question you might have and have fun

I would say so. At the very least you can get a feel for the car and coupled with its service history draw your own conclusion as to whether you wish to extend the warranty. Unexpected problems can cause big bills, and the last thing you need in the first few months of ownership is to have to fork out for something which may have been covered under warranty.
The other aspect of purchasing with a warranty (in particularAUC) is that you can sort out any potential niggle you may have. Point in case, due to a vibration during braking, I've had my dealer replace front disks and pads completely free of charge, twice(!), replace the entire passenger side door lining, repaint bubbleing paint on wingmirrors and replace rtabs. Joint cost of all that is easily over £1k just for small niggly costs, and all relatively minor items. If an smg pump were to pop the cost would be close to £2k I think

I would generally agree with Deniz.s, however AUC is not to be considered the only route to ownership, there are three things to look for with M3 purchase other than visual inspection; History, History & History.
With regards to large numbers of knacked engines, before I purchased my car I asked a friend of mine who has engine rebuilding business of seventeen years and he has never rebuilt an M3 engine and when he enquired on my behalf within the greater trade he was told "SMG's but very rare for engines"
Thorney run 169K mile M3, so they don't see a problem.
If you don't have a part/ex consider private as an alternative.
Best of luck
Bob
PS. I am not throwing down the gauntlet for another SMG V Manual debate, just passing on some Motor trade information

Hi,
i may be a little late and you may have already bought your car, but I am thinking of changing mine to a new 335ci until the new M3 is widely available next year. its a 03 plate, still has extended BMW warranty (a must according to experts!), black/black, SMG, all the toys, 45k miles, cabrio
Let me know if you're interested.
Kind regards,
Sunit
