hi all

went to view an m3 and came across what seemed like a discreprency in the service history...the last service is an inspection 2 and microfilter@43278miles, the current owner bought the car at around 50k miles from an independent dealer and the current mileage is 52200. The service reading on the dash right now reads ' inspection 13650'. Now that means the car may potentially be going without a service for over 22,000 miles which is impossible isnt it? the seller didnt seem like a dodgy dude but did have no explanation for this. my theory is either the guy has tampered with it or the independent where he bought the car may have done an oil service and reset the counter but not stamped the book...any ideas folks or have i got reason to be paranoid?

I think my car has a similar milage intervals in its service history. It is possible as the car tells you when a service is due based on type of usage.

Are you sure this is normal. If the car's last service was an Inspection 2, then the service indicator should be showing the no of miles to an Oil service.

Also, even with the lightest right foot, I can't see anyone managing to get 22,000 miles between services. About 15,000 miles seems to be the max.

my point precisely m5dave...so it should actually read 'oil' too on the mileage countdown to service if its an oil service due next? and if it reads 'inspection' then its an inspection 1/2 due next? i just thought the 'inspection' on the dash was general usage of the word to just mean next service...
