European cars only come with a 24 month warranty... An import car is unlikely to have a BMW warranty and you cannot validate the service history through the dealer network. HPI will also not report any activity prior to the import, so anything could have happened prior to being registered in the UK!

As for value - imports will depreciate a lot faster and as the UK cars settle in price then the imports will continue to depreciate fast in my experience.

THe Alpina is not faster and it is an autobox cruiser. I tested both back-to-back and the Alpina did nothing for me. If you are Der and have an M6 as well, then an Alpina makes sense for the contrast (although I'd get a B7, not a B5). The Alpina felt big and comparatively unresponsive. The M5 immediately after shrank around me.

There is nothing wrong with the SMG 3 gearbox. There have been a few (very few) failures, but the vast majority are trouble-free.

It is a fantastic car. Test drive one and test the Alpina alongside it. That way you can make up your own mind as I did.
Here we go again Zoddo.

The M5 really is not faster than a B5 (nor does it feel smaller, more responsive etc).

Play fair.

But Ashok, you personally spent all of BMW UK's allocated warranty money for the next 5 years... hehe

Day to day they are much of a muchness in speed terms (not that it is relevant to the day to day, but the M5 would be significantly quicker around the Ring). The M5 DOES feel less of a big car than the Alpina. That is subjective. I have driven both and that is how it feels to me. That is why my advice to the OP is to test both.

So there, whoamio. :P

I think it was BMW Belgium actually, so that will have been the next 15 years of their allocation.

The fuel economy, or rather, hilarious lack of, is just that: comical.

I filled up my M6 yesterday and the dial dipped under 3/4s after just 18 miles.

The problem is that the engine is so charismatic under thrapement (even at low speeds) it's like driving a Bavarian trombone: you seem to spend all the time mindlessly parping up and down, blipping, charging, coming off and blipping down just for the mindless indulgence of it's banshee sonor quotient.

For something so beguilingly capable (see perfection via otherworldy damping when annexing moors at a lick, etc) the soundtrack [esp via Tubi and such like, I'm sure] is very much half the battle.

Ok, it's no Fezza flat plane crank but it's very much 'scent of Aston' in the searing schnellerscream stakes.

You won't drop a B7 RS4 in a hurry but if you can hook up the boots astern you will find the power can impart a critical benefit.

Sir Tunning.
