BMW Warranty - Track Day Use?
Discussion
Slightly off topic however, can I strongly suggest that you consider a brake pad upgrade before any track work. The standard brakes on the E92 M3 are a huge disappointment when pushed hard and you will be pitting over 15 minutes or less with brake related issues.
I've also found the rear brake shields tend to heat up and make a good bit of noise after a few hard laps but it doesn't appear to affect performance in any way.
Re warranty I've done a good few track days in mine (with reg visible) and never had any cause for concern, although covering it up is good advice. The only issues I've had, which I could potentially put down to track use are excessively worn rear suspension bushes and a cracked exhaust manifold, presumably heat related. Other than that the car has been faultless.
Mine is a 57 plate manual car with now 60k miles.
Edited to add both faults did not become apparent until MOT time, by which time I had foolishly allowed the warranty to expire!

Just to let you all know, BMW & Mondial are cracking down on warranty claims, and some dealers have had their warranty limits reduced due to 'excessive' claims where they've been on the customer's side too often.
I'm not saying every claim will be turned down, but just be careful about where you go and what you mention to the service advisor when they ask if you enjoy trackdays

How times have changed....I took my E46 M3 on a BMW UK organised M// Car track day at Silverstone back in 2003 or 2004. I remember they had a pre-production CSL there. No issue with warranties back then...I even remember one guy had an engine failure.....they organised a flat bed and they took it straight to the nearest dealer and sorted him a loan car.

I have been considering this as I do find the brakes wanting. Is there an official upgrade available (BMW Performance?)?
From my reading, I haven't found proof that the main contender of Ferrodo 2500s are actually road legal(?) as there is a disclaimer on their website which suggests they do not meet the DoT standards.

This is intresting, my 09 car seems to make a noise from the rear that almost sounds like a small stone rattling around in a coke can when its hot/being used hardIs this the noise your referring to?

Not really, there's always been issues. I remember a member on here had a large claim refused due to tracking back in 2002(?) on a then new e46 M3. The subsequent dispute made it into Autocar.Just got an e-mail today from BMW....promoting track days. Might be worth asking them what the deal is if something happens on one of their track days ?

Just bumping this thread, as its a bit old and I'm asking a slightly different question.
I'm considering getting extended warranty on my BMW M car. There is a tickbox online saying if the car is to be used on trackdays etc. Obvs not going to tick it. Does anyone know if they would refuse or just hike the price up even more?

Where in the T&Cs? Track days are specifically named in the extended BMW insured warranty as excluded but I've not seen it named in the three years manufacturer's warranty.
It would be a little rich considering ex-BMW press cars, ex-MSV and Palmersport cars are sold on as AUCs through BMW with the remaining manufacturer's warranty intact and their new car marketing is littered with on track photography and videos.
