Hmmm, it's a funny one the Cesil. Whilst I truly did want to enjoy the car after years of yearning after one, I'm afraid as a package I found it compromised! The gearbox is truly awful for day to day duties and only really makes sense when on full bore which gets a bit tiresome. Glad I owned one even if it was for a short time, whether if buy one again, especially at the prices they're commanding now, now sure!
An awful lot has been said about the smg but when I take mine out for a commute journey the the only awful thing is the amount of traffic on the road. At low rpm I find it quite smooth, at medium pace a slight lift on the right pedal and all is well and at full chat the kick is fun. All in I like the smg. As a daily, the harsh ride and the back ache from the seats would bother me more. As the fun car it's just awesome ☺️

They are now 10-11 years old cars & condition & history are all important, mileage less so ( though low milers still fetch a premium)

Buyers are rightly picky, but the good cars still seem to go quickly.
Agreed

I swapped from the CSL to a little Ford Puma as my daily recently... first thing I got was backache from the damn Puma. Maybe I'm the right shape for CSL seats.

Some love the seats, they just don't fit my frame too well. The pain is soo worth it though.

I had one for 6 months and I could have written your comments myself. Totally pointless unless you are going to track it, and you need deep pockets to do that. The conundrum is further compounded by the fact that if you were buying a track car, you'd pick something even more raw. Caterham, Exige etc.

Could be the worst car I have owned. I thought they were overrated before I bought one, now I'm certain. At current prices, it is utter madness in my view.

It would agree that prices have got a little ahead of themselves .

These are not a daily, I've had mine 4 years and always describe it as a gt3 in a 3 series body. Back seats are useless, front seats can be a pain, gear box isn't the best in traffic but once you learn to use it properly it's ok...

But that morning you take it for a run over the moors, your lapping the nurburgring or heading to Donny after work for a summers evening TD. It's bloody brilliant.

Now I'm biased because I've had my car over 8 years.

My wife & I drove for just over 10 hours one day on various types of roads only stopping for petrol. We ate as we went along. We find the seats extremely comfortable.

SMG you just have to learn how to use it in town, normal roads & track. Love it, the box adds character to the car.

Still learning how to get the best out of it on track. It's far better than my driving & it's fantastic still learning.

I could say why it's better than a gt3, but that's my option.

not better than a gt3 but very rewarding as a track car. I thought the smg would detract from the driving experience since it is slow and clunky compared to the latest PDK but oh boy, does the car ever communicate at the limit. mine is fully caged and has recaro spg for seats. way louder than I expect and sounds like a motorbike at full chat.

it's different from a gt3 in a good way. wish my z3m and z4m had steering like the CSL, i wouldn't have ditched them.

It seems you can still buy a very nice one for £35K?

Surely they will start to head towards £50K? Or am I getting ahead of myself?

Had a brilliant 4 years use out of it. Most fun ive had in a car, ring trips, euro drives, trackdays. but with me working overseas and it sitting next to a GT3 not being used also. one had to go. (Sensible head on)

Good thing is ive sold it to a close friend so at least I know its gone to a good home (or better home...he's more anal then me). He might even let me sit in it and rev it smile

Its nice to see him enjoying it, ive been banging on about how good they are to him for years. He's been through a few 'special' motors since then but finally he see's what i meant.

Agreed. It was a known car with known issues. It was bought as a fix-er-upper and the price reflected this. Bargains will always be available to people who are willing to get their hands dirty as there appear to be less and less people who feel confident wielding a spanner in this day and age.
