The 100 cell cats and exhaust have had good success --- and are now well tried and tested.

102 octane fuel and a remap for when you need a little extra ?

Doing more would seem to be a "buyer beware" proposition.

can a CSL ECU hold mutliple maps like the jap ECUS from HKS, APEXi and GEMS?

if you map it for 102 then you have to run it on that all the time nonetheless and very high motoring costs at that!

99 RON from tesco seems to be good stuff.

It is, but V-power is better.

Don't the Porsche ECU's remap themselves on a cyclical basis ?

they self learn like BMW but you can't run mutliple maps I think instantly. it takes a while for the car to work out what is going on.

have they done tests on VPower yet? i thought the best to date was tesco 99 ron.

I dyno'd my CSL at AMD but couldn't get over 6,200 rpm out of it. It had 100 cell cats and wide bore centre section supersprint and induction flap removed. We straightlined the power curve to 7,800 and in theory it would make 383 bhp at the flywheel.

They all adjust but only up to a certain point. They aren't setup to take advantage of 102 ron etc.

So there you have it, E85 dictates a muti-mapped ECU --- bring on the 998 !

Sorry, E85 is the new Ethanol 85% / Petrol 15% high octane fuel which is kind both to the environment and the performance of your new 998 GT3. But it won't be available everywhere and a switchable ECU would therefore be very useful ....

I'm putting race cats and centre section on mine this weekend. Not the backbox though as I didn't want any drone. I will probably then get it dynoed early in the new year by either Surrey Rolling Road or Thorney Motorsport. I will only do that though if I feel confident enough they can actually achieve a correct figure. The best thing I should do is get it dynoed before and after but I don't have time and am quite keen on getting the exhaust bits on this weekend.

Anis did you get your race cats/centre section fitted? Probably getting it done myself and interested to hear how you found it.

Probably this weekend now. No local exhaust place wants to take on the responsibility of fitting it and the guy I know at BMW Heathrow is off at the moment. Got the number of an independent local to me who are supposed to be good so will try and get it done on Saturday. Will post on here once done.

'Never heard of 400 bhp out of this motor --- hence the BMW rush to a V8.

I was told by a BMW development engineeer that the CSL engine was right on the limit of reliable performance.

That doesn't stop specialist American tuners revving them to 8,800 rpm for their 400 bhp!

Ours runs over 410, but is stroked up to 3.4 litres (Kelleners). After the 24h race it was taken apart to be rebuilt but it didn't need anything doing, so the bearings were replaced just as a matter of course.

Just need a Motec to get it up to 430
