Well this thread has been very funny... with poetry coming from the phatgixer...

My take on this as I have owned both a CSL & a TT X50... the 911 is a lot quicker off the line (especially in X50 guise)and has quite a bit more punch and has a load more traction. On a runway, I don't suppose I would ever lose to a CSL in a straight line race (like in a VMAX type contest) but on the other hand if the CSL was in my slipstream I do not believe it would be more than a couple of metres behind, especially if a rolling start or a start from 40 mph was involved. This eliminates the massive advantage that the Porker has in getting off the line.

Take them both to a track and the story is very different - I would without a doubt put my money on the CSL in being the faster car. Unless of course the track involved was banked oval.

Both cars will do in excess of 180mph (assuming CSL has no limiter) and at those speeds a lot can be gained by being tucked up behind another car - so if someone was to tell me that they were chasing a 996tt in their CSL and the Porker could not shake them off I could believe it. The X50 Porker just has a little bit more grunt that should be able to make the difference in always having an edge over the CSL... but or a bit theoretical really - unless you live on an Airstrip or in Germany.

In my hamble opinion, the Porker doesn't spank the CSL at the Ring, because the CSL isn't lardy.

my mate had a car messed about with and said yeah it's alot quicker, untill he put it on the rollers, boy did he get a shock.
It was worse than official figures.

Just take the bhp gains claim with a pinch of salt.

As I said before, my mate Csl has got the full Supersprint system with race kats

Hmmmmmmmmm............

Yes, my mate had "a car" messed about with

And my other mate had a full SuperSprint on his "Csl"

Can't see where I said the "Csl" has been tuned

HMMMMMMMMMMMMMMMM god you get some Divs on these forums, really sad that they read something that is not there, try getting out more, maybe to buy a new anorak

This is obviously the real klm.

I've got an idea- someone organise this exact line-up at the next V-Max (or ala' Adam with the CTR, at Hockenheim), then we can all see exactly what they're like- both off the line and rolling starts. Solve it once and for-all...

Interesting thread.

Equal(ish) power to weight, equal(ish) gears, equal(ish) aerodynamics.

911 Turbo gets off line quicker, but 4wd losses hurt the wheels bhp, which will obviously reduce it's ability to punch through the air at higher speeds where power matters more... Considering the CSL's pretty high power after losses vs the Turbo you can start to see why it won't be that far off, especially when you take into account the weight of the 911 Turbo vs CSL.

911 Turbo will still have the wheel power advantage outright over 150mph, and traction/power advantage under 50mph, but between the two (most road driving) the CSL will probably sit so close it's essentially equal.

Excellent idea. We can then get something like this: www.youtube.com/watch?v=dG0knICW_bs

So that would solve off the line and rolling starts. Then youd' need to take them round the Ring and a normal circuit.

Maybe instead, you could do as the Dude and see what they're like in the real world. Both are quick, desirable cars.

what is the ring times for them both?

CSL was around 7mins 50 I think. not sure what 996 TT std or X50 is. not much in it but CSL more of a giggle as the TT is a piece of pi55 to drive!

I followed one at bedford and it had tonnes of traction out of the corners but more of a handful coming in and mid corner than the CSL

CSL will do 180 + in 5th gear as the limiter is not on in 5th ;-)

I in this very thread said:
Sport Auto's Ring times were 7.50 for the CSL and 7.56 for the 420 bhp 996TT (same driver)

What about in the wet or with "like for like" tyres?

WeeSkids on this forum was driving my CSL on PS2s chasing a well driven 996 turbo on Corsa Motorsport semi slicks round bedford, it was pretty much even but he let us by in the end. I don't think tyres would swing it in the Porsches favour.

In the wet, no contest, the 4 wheeled comfort blanket from Porsche would walk it, but the csl driver would be too sideways to care

Only just found this LOOOOOOONG thread so haven't read it all, only snippets but I have a CSL albeit unmodded and I have just sold my 996TT and the power delivery of the TT is just phenominal and even a modded CSL wouldn't get close unless it had a Porky turbo lump fitted.

Sorry just can't see it. Sold the TT so that I could keep the CSL though.

It's an urban myth that the limiter only applies in sixth.
