CSL owners track day...

with the so called 'demise' of BM3W I wanted to copy across some content for review regarding a track day for CSL owners in the new year.
seems a few porkers and M5 owners want to hijack it but first dibs goes to CSL owners as there are not that many of us out there! ;-)
* we are also looking to do a london meet in the new year and have got a few owners mail addresses just in case we do lose BM3W*
here are the options and the Companies I have spoken to date are as follows:
Motorsport events – www.motorsport-events.com
Easy Track – www.easytrack.co.uk
RMA – much more of an annual membership and not one offs.
Motorsport events offer the following:
- priority booking and reservation for a group of 10
- airfield based events with lots of run off and open pit lane
- free 20 minute instruction for the group
- good value at around 99 for a full day
- tends to be coned out and not as atmospheric as say Bedford or brands
- their calendar is due out in early 2007 for us to reserve and start in mid feb
- You have to pay upfront under the booking number so not exposure to anyone around deposits.
Easytrack
- can offer discount for a group booking (TBC)
- good mix of events and dates with maybe Bedford as an ideal location
- Calendar for early 2007 is up on the site.
- Offer services of tuition for novices as well as those who think they are experts!!
- BEDFORD AUTODROME GT - £149

Places Remaining: 84
Format: open pitlane
** I have done a few days at bedford and the CSL was sth like 77dbs on the noise test on a std exhaust!! that was of course before we opened her up on the straights but well within the limits. can't comment on cars with sports pipes and race cats**
Motorposrt Vision are another good bunch and have a few events at bedford in jan and feb....

- can offer a discount if we get 10 cars or more
- they did do a BMW track day before and it went well (prob need 50 cars though and less risk if we tag onto a normal track day with them)
- they are looking at another BMW day but this is at snetteron which is a good track but beginners may find it a bit wary!
if we can start to think about numbers, dates and defos then I can get this going. March seems to be a good time for us all to look for a date.

I did my first track day at Brands and didn't think it was a problem really - all tracks have their tricky bits..
My brother (s3am) and i will be at Silverstone on the 13th in the CSL and GT3 if anyone's up for that. WOuld definately be up for bedford again tho daschin, was good to meet you there last time.
Got your brakes done yet or are you sticking with the standards? If so we can go round in convoy, if not, you'll never keep up at bedford!

On the Trackday front, I vote for Brands.
Am lucky enough to have driven both Brands and Bedford. Bedford is great, nice & open, but because so, drivers have been known to get a bit 'brave' and there are a few nutjobs driving beyond their own or their cars limits, at the expense of others. It's also hard on brakes.
Brands was awesome in the CSL. Yep Indy circuit is a bit tight in places (siting of armacove, not tarmac), & because it is, you tend to drive fast, but within your limits. Extremely well organised venue. Unless you're mad, paddock hill bend is a doddle. Quite a unique sensation going down and up into druids. Loved it.
At the risk of starting the usual war of words, stock brakes are fine at both circuits up to the point of about 10 hot laps in a row. Cooling issues caused a bit of brake fade in the CSL, but nothing major. However, cos i'm a chicken & like brakes to compensate for my driving style, I had AP's fitted anyway. Trackday laps are quicker & safer as a result. Well worth the money - thanks to Thorney.
PS. Road tyres melt on hot days at both circuits...

put the RS19s with fluids and hoses in so will see how that goes first. will never be up to APs I admit but can make up for it in other areas ;-)
Brands and bedford are both great tracks having done both too but brands indy is nowhere near as good as full GP which is best part of 300 pounds for a full day. not really ideal for novices so I a trying to help everyone out in terms of ability, location and comfort factor.
I will keep searching and then start to get some commitment from people in due course.

Bedford is so dull dull dull! How about Oulton. That is terrific, or for the less well endowed in the testes area, Donington.
The problem with Bedford is it eats brakes (even worse than Oulton), has a huge straight that those fecking GT3s can use to best advantage and still has plenty of places to slide off and hit things...

good track and nice blend of corners and some hairy bits (if you are that way inclined!!)
angus, they are using a new format at bedford which mixes north, south and west so you lose half of the straight and all the terminal speeds.
I done it back in november and it was perfect for the CSL as you had more sweeper and corners to pee off the beetle drivers. oh yeah a GT3 did spin right behind us as well.
was a nice lay out and far from dull!
