How would a remapped BMW 335i compare to the M3 CSL for power and enjoyment, engine-wise, would you say?
I hear they are getting 380 bhp with huge torque figures to boot.

The 335i will be far more refined than a CSL ..... which is fine if that's what you are looking for....

335i = more power, more torque, more comfort, more weight, less agile, slower around the twisty bits and will not sound anything like as good as a CSL.

I can't see 335i being anywhere near as sharp as the CSL in dynamic terms.

There is no contest in my eyes ...

Straight line drag race or in gear then the 335i would have the edge, but as said dynamically do contest.

I suspect that the 335i with its low down torque benefit would out drag a CSL in road use but a CSL would out corner a 335i on a race track - particularly with cup tyres.

Given the price of a 335i (saloon can be bought for sub £28k) compared to the new price of the CSL its a bit of a bargain IMHO

Noooo, it doesn't have a limited slip diff so you'll get one long black line and I won't see it as it'll be behind me...
It's not just the power but how you can get it down.

I think the electronics will probably play a much bigger part in how quickly the cars make 60mph as opposed to the presence of a lsd - which is more about maintaining drive through tight corners

Well both would have similiar electronics but the CSL would have in its favour:

Larger rear tyres (in the dry its an advantage)
LSD, your right, corners bring out the best but high power cars without one just spin spin spin their power away...
Better suspension - read firmer.(yes, it does make a difference, ask any drag racer e.g. traction bars)
Better power to weight
A more aggressive gear change
A more aggressive electronic traction control system (M Track Mode) which by allowing miniscule amounts slip actually aids traction.

So in a straight line drag the CSL would have it HOWEVER.... rolling on from say 80mph, where torque, HP and aerodynamics play a much bigger part, well I wouldn't want to bet either way.
And on a track...no contest for the CSL.

As per the initial post then it would be good to see a remapped 335i (with 380bhp) up against a CSL, it wouldnt be disgraced imho.

Remind me, what is the tyre width on a CSL?
