I wonder if this will fetch its £10 to 12K estimate?

I think this must be the best mk1 remaining, based on the £20k asking price: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/311475117174

Although the spec looks a bit odd (steering wheel isn't right for an S-Special, the front splitter and rear spoiler look aftermarket, wrong alloys which should be BBS and loads of other detail things).

Steering wheel is right for a 1997. They got airbags at that point.

Front splitter and rear spoiler are OEM options.

Are they really? I knew the S Special was available with a rear spoiler but was fairly sure it was smaller than that. What about the wheels not being BBS cross-spokes?

I wouldn't say original tyres are a selling point...

There were 2 types of OEM spoiler

As for the wheels, they could well have been changed. easy enough to change back.

I'd like to make a bet that in the red one the steering wheel padding will have separated from the wire frame !!

Also, I thought that the vacuum pipe from just past the oil filler cap to the front of the inlet manifold should be rubber, chrome, rubber ??

yes it's missing a part there, been replaced with black tube and soke plastic p-clips.

(Or do I recall that being one of the rubbish cost savings on later cars...?)

Later cars had no chrome pipe. The camcover bolts weren't chrome plated either

I put this one in the seriously over priced car section a few weeks ago £20k is way to much even though it is very nice I think there just chancing there luck seeing if there is anyone out there mad enough to pay this.

The red one is really nice I think its the one that's been at the NEC classic car show on the owners club stand I think this one will make close to £10K they are looking for.

The prices on all clean mk1s seem to have started going up hopefully (for us owners) they will all be making £10K plus soon smile

No. Black is the correct, original way to do it.
Later cars could have them done in body colour as an option.

If you pain them body colour the car looks fat and saggy in the middle. Black sills ftw !
