I bought a tear tonneau cover for my mk1. I struggle to fit it . Once on it looks good and prevents movement from the folded hood .
Question is does anyone know of a knack to fitting it please?

pop the stud poppers on first, loop the two hanging straps under the hood frame then stretch out the tonneau and clip over the lip on the rain rail.

I assume you mean the cover that fits over the folded roof, a 'hood boot' in Mazda parlance. A 'tonneau' cover was available as an accessory for the MK1 & covered the entire car as per sports cars of old. You could unzip & fold away the drivers section if so desired when driving solo, the passenger seat having to be fully reclined first. I think after-market tonneau covers were made for later cars with headrests.

Never heard it called a hood boot, In the parts list i have it's called a tonneau cover, even for the mk1.
I fit mine as per haylingjag's method and don't have any trouble.
