Fortunately I live in Japan and am very lucky to have used SmileJV for my previous car buys and sells. They are amazing!
I always by from auction and have been looking for a hotish Subaru family wagon.
My favorite Forester is the 3rd Gen (SH) but the standard XT turbo wasn’t interesting enough for me. But in a few countries they sold the S-Edition and the TS which were 265 BHP with STI components and tons of kit.
Managed to win the auction of a 60,000 mile auction grade 4, for 4650 quid.
Will send pictures when I collect

Delivered today, EJ25 engine detuned to 260hp

Switchable traction control, with the option to use the paddles on the steering wheel. Took her for a quick spin and it seems really well sorted.

Presumably it uses a bigger turbo than the XT? Or I guess it could simply run a little more boost.

The XT of the same period uses The 2.0 EJ20 engine, this uses the same engine as in the WRX STI of the same year, but remapped and with different gearbox ratios

Looks ace, top buy. Is it the EJ25 that’s got a bad rep for being a bit prone to lunching itself?

XT of same period delivered to Aus had the EJ25. Regardless, top purchase biggrin

And to answer the other point, yes the EJ25 can lunch itself, but I think it’s once subject to power increases. Mines currently tuned to 195kW/265bhp on 120,000km and using neither oil or water between services. But, that’s today...

Yes, I think it’s the engine with the dodgy reputation. Didn’t realize the XT of this model went to oz as 2.5. I believe they also had this S-Edition and the even better specd TS.
I bought it from auction so don’t quite know how well it’s been looked after but with an automatic box and a slightly detuned version, I am hoping it’s not too much of a risk. They don’t come up for auction that often here, so had to take a punt. With taxes and fees it cost me about 8k USD and I think it will hold its value. Going to get it serviced and cleaned up, then will post a nicer pic
