Not fast, but more fun that my 996, welcome to borrow mine if you'd like.

Have a look at www.mx5parts.co.uk and ebay for bits to add on.

drive a standard one... they are great as is, superchargers/turbos are an option for a few ks depending on how much power uppage you want...

or simple change of the exhaust/induction kit can change the aural note with out performance enhancements...

i like mine standard, but a scharger is attracting me...

I know I've missed the boat as you've already bought one :-)

.. but I think the only advice that I can think of that I would give to a would be mx5 owner would be to go for the 1.8 instead of the 1.6. Although all the general wisdom suggests that the 1.6 [when it was 115Bhp] is a better car and a sweeter engine - if you are going to modify the car - then the 1.8 has stronger bits [diff/clutch etc] and you can get more power when you turbo it without changing the bits.

probably only important if you are going to mod it... but worth a mention!

my 2c...

Picked up the car last night. Granted it is a 1989 car but it has had more paint than the national gallery, and rattles and squeaks like nobody's business - even clutch pedal squeaks - annoying! A perfect track weapon.

I have ordered a cat by-pass and K&D induction kit to free it up a bit....

Paid £1700 for it, with 92k kms, new roof (plastic/vinal), battery, service, tax, years ticket....needs radio and electric ariel, astray and cubby hole.

A bit tired(paint could also do with a touch up here and there) but should be good to play with. Drives straight and revs well.

As it was in storage for 5 years the carpets are musty.....any tips for removal of same? shake and vac?

If it lasts to the next MOT I will be delighted........

Whilsy MX5's are fun to drive they are very girly cars. I dont like the new one at all - it reminds me of the Gibbs aquada.

My eunos is one of the best cars I've ever owned, whereas the S2000 was easily the worse.

Couldn't give a toss if some people think they're 'girly'.

What was wrong with the S2000 ?

I'm thinking of replacing the MX5 with one scratchchin

Have a read here. That just covers part of it...

Simply no comparison to the Mazda in handling terms.

Interesting scratchchin

I've never heard of any reliability problems with them.
I suppose you can get a bad one of anything.

I know there's no comparison handling wise though

Not just me.

Another PHer said:
Mine had (bearing in mind this was a new 02 and most of this list was within the first 18 months of ownership):

New Roof (torn, both sides - faulty welds on support arms - known fault)

New Gearbox (fifth stopped working, synchro gone and gear dissolved - known fault)

New Alarm and Immobiliser (fried for no known reason)

New ECU (apparently in the process of the alarm lunching itself it damaged the ECU which eventually croaked also)

New Cam Cover (cracked, leaking)

New offside front strut (leaking oil)

Corroded Alloys - which I ended up giving up the fight to get replaced as I was selling the car.

It kangarooed like they all do.

Feels like my eunos has got more torque.

That's right. Look at my girly car:

Compared to this very masculine looking S2000:

I thought PH was for people who were older and more mature than this.
