MX-5 Fuel tank

What is the capacity for a mark 1 Mx-5 import? I thought it was 40 litres but I have only ever managed to get 31 litres in there, is the gauge especially pessimistic? I am happy with the consumption tho, 420km to a tank, not bad for at all!!

45 litres I think.

If I run mine to a wee bit below the empty mark, I can squeeze just over 40 litres in.

According to the Miata 1.6 ltr enthusiasts manual, 45 litres. My 1.6 used to take around 38liters at 450Km my 1.8 Mk 1 R limited does around the same which is not too bad with a 150k round trip to work each day,

I think the early 1.6's had a 40 litre fuel tank. It was later increased to 45 litres (10 gallons) and later still to 50 litres.
