I just bought my lovely new (1992 Mk1 1.6) MX-5 last weekend and I've had a blast! The only problem though is the two door speakers, which have blown and are producing poor poor sound quality.

The previous owner recommended MX5 Parts and after taking a look I found these: http://www.mx5parts.co.uk/product_info.php/product...

Now, are these a good set of speakers? Reviews seem to be fairly positive. How easy are they to fit for someone who hasn't done it before? How do I go about doing it or is it fairly straightforward? smile

Well, you can jsut get 165mm speakers (6.5&quotwink from your local audio stockist - if that's easier.

They are a doddle to fit, if I remember correctly, you just prise the plastic plate off (the whole thing, not just the grill) - do check for screws first but I don't think it has any. Only weird thing is the Mazda speakers are held in with three screws, you can use these (with washers) to mount the new, or drill new holes and use self tapping screws.

Whatever speakers you fit will go the same way though, at least mine do, after a couple of years, it seems water gets to them. Perhaps door seals should be checked or mayber from the factory they have a splash guard. (I've got through 2 pairs like this)

If your not into a thumping sound system you will be fine , the stock speakers are not bad , if you can get replacements stick them back in , if not go for co axils or even components , got these in mine at the mo ,

they are very good , dynamatting the doors helps stiffen it and takes out a lot of resonance so you can get decent mid bass from the doors .
