Not keen on the Frogeye conversion, but the RetroForza kit looks pretty good:

I especially like the coupe style...stick a V8/V6 in there and you will have something really special (well you just do need a fruity sounding engine to go with bodywork like that - it would just be rude not to!)

I can't help but disagree with bigger motors in the MX5 - they are interesting but how about this:
When Mazda developed the MX5 they sent their executives over the mountains in an MG and a Triumph Spitfire. Both have awesome (yet arguably flawed) characters, but the car that the 5 really feels the copy of is the Elan - someone will kill me for that since I know the Elan suffered with an anorexia problem and carried a badge with more catchet.
However, look at what it is - originally a 1.6 roadster, which is all heart. To counter the modest engine (am I the only one who thinks it has its appearance copied from the Lotus twin cam?) - it didn't carry a lot of fat. On stock cars, I think the Spitfire influence shows through - slidy thrills at normal speeds, and wonderfully progressive handling.
Slinging the larger engines just upsets the balances, more weight bias to the front and more power to start revealing limits in the chassis and handling. Gives you the show car but perhaps not the finess.
This car is too much fun through the twisties to mess with, just my opinion!!

I hear and you and agree with the lightweight, balAnced handling with just enough power thing. When Mazda developed the MX5 they sent their executives over the mountains in an MG and a Triumph Spitfire. However, the great thing about the MX-5 is that it is a classic but not in scarce supply so fiddling with the looks, engine etc is no big deal as say sticking a V8 into a classic 911 (this has been done by some twunt in th US with a 3 speed auto to boot!!)

Hey....... I Own that car! Actually, you are right. blokes are 50/50 like or loathe, but 99.999% of women who have ever seen it think its the bee's knees. Actually, far from being gay, this little car gets you chatting with some pretty stunning women..........
That has always been my reposte when someone calls my car girly. You are going to get to play a lot more hide the sausage if the ladies think your car is cute. Look at the sort of women that like subaru's and evo's and other 'manly' cars and you will see my point. It all depends on whether you are seeking approval based on what car you drive really.
