quick help for a buddy, he's been quoted £35 each per spark plug on his rx8,(smaller power) anyone know if there is any thing special about em?

Very. If you think about how a rotary engine works, when it's spinning at 9k rpm, the spark plugs are firing 18k times a second. In other words, as often as a Formula 1 car's plugs.

thanks buddy, just wanted to know if he was being spoon fed a load of rubbish by the dealer. is there a special type for v-tec's/rotarys that he needs then?

Yup. That's why the 36k service is the expensive one - around a ton on plugs from the dealer. You can buy them yourself from somewhere like www.sparkplugs.co.uk where they charge around £20 per plug. He'll need 2 leading and 2 trailing plugs.
