Going to test drive a 2000 Mk2 this afternoon, not quite the weather for open top motoring at the moment, but at least I'll be able to find out if the roof leaks!
Easy on the loud pedal in the corners, especially if its running Avons smile

Thanks, I'll be careful, the embarrassment of doing that alone would be too much to deal with!

Thanks for the info, didn't realise the claim would make that much of a difference! Will try Esure...
Oh yes. 1 Claim for damage done while the car was parked. Sent my insurance from ~£500. To £1200 for just me. Needless to say I switched insurer. But the cheapest I could get was £1000 for me and the Mrs (she quite young).

As the claim was a few years ago now insurance is back down to £480. Split 2 ways = me insured for the year for £240. Result!

Well, test drive done.

I was expecting 2 things to hit me (not literally) - firstly the small size of the mx5 relative to other road users, and secondly the lack of straight line pace.

I noticed neither of these things, the low down position of the car didn't seem to be an issue at all (although I'd like to meet some lorries on the m25 before I make a final call on that one!) and I was quite impressed with the speed of the 1.8. I really liked the drive, although the steering wheel felt a bit too close for comfort... I guess you get used to it.

Hopefully going to have a look at a couple more tomorrow, I'm not sold on the leater interior of the one I drove today, I'd like to try a cloth kitted one.

The engine is a real screamer, doesn't feel very fast below 4-5k and then above then it goes mad. Not really fast, but can shift quite well. I was impressed for the feel of it for 130bhp!

I wouldn't worry about the lack of an LSD for a bit of drifting, either. OK, it's a bit difficult when it's dry but in the wet, it's like a dog on wet lino thumbup

Apologies for the rubbish pic, my dad couldn't work my camera for the life of him...

Oulton Park's drift track. Great fun!
