On the drivers door is that controls for door mirror adjustment, and 4 position electric seat memory?

If so, that's quite advanced for something in the 70's can't think of anything like that on UK motors of the era.

Mirror, and four electric window switches.

Yes, its Metallic, but very fine,
Its should be E5 Rallye Red, but my Road Runner was Tor Red, and i much prefer the colour!

As im doing this at home in a smallish garage ive had to adopt a slightly unusual way of putting the colour on the old girl!
Very labour intensive as im always masking the bloody thing! lol

A good mate of mine had to adopt a similar method when he did the restoration and spraying of his '55 Chevy Bel-Air HT in his garage.

I should have gone and had a look! , ive a dilemma with my resto , ive removed the Vinyl top which was a replacement fitted in 88' when my Chally underwent its previous resto and subsequent colour change from E5 Red to a BMW shade close to Plum Crazy,

The Roof looked pretty good , but after 30 odd years, and having no idea what possible horrors may be laying beneath the Vinyl ,and to do anything close to a proper job it had to come off!

Like the rest of the car i was pleasantly surprised to find nothing but some light surface pitting to the roof and a couple of light depressions ,
the joins to the rear quarters were filled with bondo and as above free from major rot, this was local blasted, properly cleaned, and ideally lead loaded, but as this is a home resto, plus the headliner was still in place and i fully intended to have a new Vinyl fitted i opted to Ali Devcon the join and level with gob as per the factory!

I also removed a lot of some sort of epoxy seam sealer from the drip rail/roof join, cleaning back to nice clean bare metal and bringing all the roof spot welds to the surface,

My dilemma is now i cant find anyone local to replace the Vinyl roof!
So now may well have to refinish the roof in body colour, DOES anyone no if Challengers with no factory Vinyl roof's have visible roof spot welds?
I generally mess with E'Types these always have the spot/seam weld visible under the chrome drip rails,

Have you tried Paul Burnham at Burnham Autos in Gravesend, if anyone in the Kent area would know of someone to do a vinyl roof on a yank/muscle car he likely will.

Yeah ive heard the name,
i'l make some enquirers next week,

ive contacted a couple of localish people but they weren't prepared to come to me, and as i expect your aware the Vinyl has to go on with body glass out, which would mean transporting the vehicle to their workshop etc,

And from what ive seen on youtube the correct type for a Challenger has a full length seam on both sides that follows the sail panels which from all accounts is a bh to put on arrow straight lol

The one i removed just had the seams running between the front and rear screens, and a bitsa piece covering part of the lower rear screen panel,

Its no biggy as im happy just to paint the roof,

Cheers son

Looks superb ! Ive been quiet on the Challenger front too.

I have a 70 R/T SE available for Full restoration. Factory finished in arguably the Best colour, and thought to be one of just 500 cars built to this spec. Lots of factory options on this one, but it is Rough.

Not really a problem now with brand new shells available. Much easier and cheaper (in the long run) than trying to fix a rough as a badgers arse rusted shell.

I was talking to the guy from the Porsche factory at Goodwood Revival on Saturday as they had a customers 356 shell on the stand which he has been restoring. That was rough as anything and he said it will be 1000-1200 hrs work just in repairing and replacing the rotten and damaged structure....and Porsche Classic hourly rates were 130 Euro/hr......eek
