Superb shot !!
Challengers go down the line. LA or Hamtramk
Note the scarce optional waist mouldings on the white ? Car.

Hi I was trying to find out more about classic dodge challenger and ultimately own one. I am curious how they look different even though they are the same years 1970,71,72,73? Any reason for this? Maybe it's just different camera angles? I know 1973 was a big change year for emmision controls, smaller engines ect. Was the body style changed? Thanks

Body styling is identical through all years, the front & rear styling changed slightly for '70/71 then in '72 they got dual headlights, over riders on the bumpers & less attractive (imho) rear lights along with less options on horsepower.

'71 was the dual headlamp year, they went back single '72 &'73

I'm all confused about this single/dual headlight debate...

1970

1971

1972

1973

My bad, all years of Challenger's had dual headlights, I'd had half a bottle of red last night & my memory was a bit hazy.....
Cuda's only had dual headlights for '71 as mentioned.
'72 through '74 shared the same front & rear styling though.
Here's my '72 Rallye which was only 8 years old when I bought it. ..

I sold it in the mid 80's to a friend, it's now with someone else who has turned into a Sam Posey tribute car, it's good to know it's still in use. Having been here in the UK since '79, our climate had hurt it somewhat over the years.

Great that it has survived !
Was it put on a 1979 T registration when it first arrived in Blighty ? My 70 Challenger appears to have been shipped here in 1977 and was definitely on a J reg in 1977.

Yes, back then they didn't put age related plates on & although they were starting to do that if asked when I sold it, neither I or subsequent owners have bothered. Matt who owns it now says it's part of the car's history so why change it. It's still a work in progress, if you zoom in, you can see it still has the blue velour interior which must have been done in the USA before the car got here. It's actually a pretty rare car as it had a factory electric sun roof, I've never seen another. Unfortunately it's no longer functional.

But how come my 70 Challenger R/T was put in a J plate in 77 ?
And my Late Dads 57/69 Firebird was put on a K plate in 73 ??

That does seem to be the exception rather than the rule.

I can remember most imports back then on plates of the year they were imported. There used to be a guy with a '57 Chevy Bel-Air near me around 1979/80 that was running on a 'T' reg, and I well remember a fast and loud lime green '69 Charger in South London on a 'V' plate.
