But how come my 70 Challenger R/T was put in a J plate in 77 ?
And my Late Dads 57/69 Firebird was put on a K plate in 73 ??
That does seem to be the exception rather than the rule.

I can remember most imports back then on plates of the year they were imported. There used to be a guy with a '57 Chevy Bel-Air near me around 1979/80 that was running on a 'T' reg, and I well remember a fast and loud lime green '69 Charger in South London on a 'V' plate.
This /\ /\, most got the year that they were imported, also remember that most were brought over by USAF personnel & they had no interest or even knowledge of our registration system. It's likely that the only cars that got age related plates were either personal imports or the odd second hand dealer import. That all changed around '84 though when the "prefix" plates started & they introduced the "Q" for vehicles whose manufacturers date couldn't be confirmed. The DVLA wouldn't (& still won't) accept the decoded vin as proof of date. Also many of the American service personnel had finance on their cars, meaning that the only acceptable paperwork (the title) was held by the bank, which is why you still see newish "Q" plate cars in areas around USAF bases.

There's a 440 Challenger and a same shape 440 Barracuda in next Saturday's

Historics auction at Ascot if anyone fancies one or two.

Look like being offered by same seller.

Nothing to do with me.

It's not a pretty picture, it got hit by someone, I drove it like that for 6 months before getting it fixed, along with some other work.

Their description of this Challenger is absolutely appalling......
They are saying that it’s an “SE RT “ which it plainly isn’t !!

Racing at Santa Pod in 1988, returning to the pits & got T boned by some tt in a borrowed van, his mate had said he could practice his hand brake turns in it.......
It wasn't that hard an impact, but no B pillar doesn't make a strong car.
