Iain Tyrrell has an interesting video of that '70 Hemi Challenger on his YouTube channel. His videos are always very informative and he normally features classic Italian sports cars, but is clearly quite clued up about muscle cars too. Didn't realise they only made 137 Hemi Challengers in 1970, so this is a very rare beast! Will be interesting to see what it sells for in the end - the auction is currently live...
Wonderful Challenger thread indeed!
To vinyl or not to vinyl?
I’ve Always preferred non vinyl Mopars
I even went out of my way to get them in the past.
My plan was to non vinyl my 71 Gtx but the roof was too rusty and very wobbly!
So the vinyl will have to go back on lol.
But when it comes to Challengers I’m in two minds now seeing you lovely car?
I always remember viewing a Panther Pink Challenger in Rye Sussex about twenty years back.
It was non vinyl and the pink roof just gave me the hebby jebbies lol.
No ‘sale for me’ and where did that 70 R/T go at £5000?

I must admit its slightly bum Clenching when one removes a Vinyl, my Tin Top had some light pitting but zero rot through, had to cut out a tiny section right in the middle of the upper screen aperture, one of the screen retaining studs had rusted around it,
Chemically removed every last spec of corrosion , took me an age to it, but i was confident enough that the metal was clean so my Vinyl which is a Legendary item with the correct Hockey Stick shaped seams is still in its box in the loft!
lordy this seems a long time ago!
Very clean indeed 9 o’clock News!
Wish I could say the same for my 71 Gtx.
Clean Detroit steel has a fascination for an engineer like me lol...
An old friend of mine built this fast and Furious Charger in the Unit next door to me in LA.
Tom Nelson didn't know how to finish the metalwork, so he left it shiny lol...
So Cool my Mopar mate in the UK is doing his 65 Fury the same.
Wish I could say the same for my 71 Gtx.

How the F--k do they get around things like the lead load in the sail panels??? lead always shows itself in a different way to steel??
I tried doing a Bare metal swirl finish on a series 1 E body, just for some promo pics, but no matter how i tried i just couldn't get the metal colours to match!
You could always see the lead in the seams, Bulkhead and rear upper quarters into the roof were impossible to loose!
All 'leading' removed and mig/tig joints.
Single ‘spotting’ mig is very time consuming and mind blowing work.
I could do it twenty years ago, but not anymore, it’s bash and fill for me now lol...
The Californian cars are mostly rust free and covered in dents.
So my LA Moparmate says “ they are paved in bondo”?
Roughly translated, they is filled to crap and covered in primer filler...
Be careful what you buy form the Colder States of USA.
They just fill over the rust lol...

Herein lies the problem with Yanks?
Back in the 90's when full quarters were available from Taiwan, everyone was happy!
So the guys who were repairing panels with carefully inlaid steel patches were NOW.
Cutting off full quarters with gay abandon...
It was a fraction of the time to replace a dented, rusted panel with a new one lol.
Ten year rolls past and the first generation Tai-panels are rusting out from the inside!
Not from the inside surface, but inside the actual metal itself...
Its because, its recycled washing machines and toasters now on your million dollar Muscle car DOH!
So all thorough the 2000's we were cutting off the Tai-panels and refitting Detroit steel from California.
AMD I believe are better quality, thicker and better formed without too much recyclementages?
Even so, I would never use a 'repop' on my cars, 'repair every inch' even if it sends you as mad as Putin...
Now that is real Crazy...
No naked woman have ever attacked me with alien writing on their backs.
Where did I go wrong???
