Yeah i'l be glad when i can get out about again, the shoots around here have reopened, and a good one on the Kent Show ground has reopened,
and my rifle club are back up at Hythe , not sure a Lydd as yet?

a pal is picking me up in the morning and were doing the tour, start at Chris Potter then work our way back, i fancy a new clay gun, and now my Daughter
has discovered how much fun it is she's all keen!
So on the look out for a nice 20 bore for her.

Pretty much a quarter of my rifle club membership also belong to the same sporting clays club, which is fun as the rifle rivalry extends into the clay busting one
I had a 6 hour round trip drive up to Mansfield on Saturday to collect another rifle........done the deal back in Sept last year with a old guy I know through another forum who at 74 was thinning out his cabinet, but the wait for variation as the virus cases went up last autumn, plus then first 4 months of lockdown this year has meant a long wait to collect it..!!
Being Bisley based, I've never got to shoot at Hythe, which is a shame, given the history of the place

Must be real handy if one lives close the Bisley, not shot there now for over 18 months, maybe on the cards now , hopefully.
600 is the max on Hythe now, serial 10, it is a 1000 range but one has to over shoot a range road so it was stopped so time ago ??
Serial 10's popular as it pretty much the only range cleared for HME, Lydd has 1300 plus but they are Falling plate ranges,
Theres one half target at around 1100, half covered by a 5 bar fence, and surrounded by long grass, no visible shot fall makes it very tricky to connect with


But serial 45 etc are no longer 338 friendly , or any HME gear shame coz it was a good challenge when breeze'y

I would have sensibly thought that removal of spark plugs, turning over the engine initially for 10, 15 seconds or so would eject any excess fuel build-up in the cylinder. Then leave for an hour or so to help any remaining petrol to vapourise - then repeat several times over a few hours to ensure that the fuel vaporises from all cylinders. If you are concerned about 'wash down' and petrol dilution of the oil simply 'pull' the dipstick and do a 'sniff' test - does it smell of petrol? - is the oil level higher than what you remember? - if still in doubt perhaps do an oil change?

Its handy to a point, but I'm not into punching holes in paper and scoring points, as I don't own a TR, and with all the new leccy target setups at Bisley now not being very battle sight milsurps friendly for an old git with ever worsening eyesight, being 20 mins down the road isn't that great an advantage!
Interesting you say Lydd is falling plates, as steel plates set out at various distance in a range is much more what I'd prefer to do, given all my stuff I own is old milsurps, nothing new and fancy for me.
Old cars as well as old firearms are my preference for this old git

I had a nice dream last night (well this morning more like since I got home from work at 03.00) my over stimulated grey cells had me and the Mrs building our own house in mid-century 'Palm Springs' sprawling bungalow style complete with palm trees lining the driveway, leading to an underground lair rammed with classic yank metal.... all mid '60 to early '70s stuff, Mustangs, Cougars, Impalas, Bonnevilles, C1, 2 and 3 Corvettes, first gen Camaros and Firebirds, Dodge Polaras, Coronets, Chargers and Challengers, Plymouth Furys and Roadrunners, huge wafty Buicks and Chryslers.... it was heaven. Then my alarm went off and I woke up with a bad back again, typical!

Serial 65 at Lydd is a field firing range, falling plate figure 11's from 75 to 1200 mtrs, can be used as a pop up range, were the target comes up for a set number of seconds before it drops, its though as theres a lot of ground to cover to find them, check the range and make elevation adjustments etc!

Perfect for battle sights , if ones eyes are ok! ..............................................................

The Gurkha regiment used to train there , ive watched the Gherkins using quad 50 cal's on full auto every 5 round a tracer , good lord talk about hard rain!

Once im up and about, i'l find out when/if weve ranges booked, as i know Landmarc have been doing along with Shepway Council repairs to the sea wall along that bit of coast,
once ive got confirmed dates i'l let ya know and if your interested come down as my guest for day and have a blast! no marking or scoring, so one can burn through the ammo

Theres also some tanks and armoured vehicles out at 1400 , you just just make out a hit with a 308, need a 338 to get a proper ding !

Classic Cars - Watches - Shooting.......yes, and the other form of 'gassing' i.e 'Shooting the Breeze'. But you are forgetting an additional component that for some guys (theoretically anyway) ......... hot females perhaps?

Oh yes indeed............but advancing years means that's usually the first 'hobby' to get sidelined once all the ex's have become ex's

Is there any love amongst this group for the late 50s Plymouth Fury (ie the Steven King Christine car)? There’s one up at the moment which could be a reasonable tidy-up project, but as usual I have no idea of values or desirability (well, except my own!).

I know someone that had one for years.......he may even still have it, although I have a vague feeling he sold it when he moved from London out to the Essex coast about 7-8 years ago.

Parts is the issue with these though especially trim items and such like, so it depends on what it needs or might need. It was OK before Covid as shipping costs were not that bad for items, but the lack of flights means shipping costs for parts from USA has gone ballistic since last summer.

There's a frame off fully restored '57 Fury up for sale in the USA at the moment....$85k.

The whole parts thing is an issue now, service bits not so much but deffo increasing in cost, trim/body is a major drama now for pretty much anything off piste ,

which bring us round full circle, and why the few select cars are so sort after, cant blame people really for wanting something that's reasonably simple to fix following a problem,

Look at 50's stuff and theres thousands of pounds just in chroming, a lot of the fancy garnish trims just cant be found now, i remember when i was doing my T bird even back in the late 90's a quarter panel was about 6K ffs..................................................................

And as Aero said the cost of postage and the duty everything has almost doubled in price in the last year ..........................

And yes a proper 2 door Fury Coupe is very desirable ............................................... 4 doors not even close...............
