As much as I like the overall concept of a Bristol.......some models (in appearance terms) are wonderful looking.......then Anthony Crook would go and *uck it all up by using some crap bumpers, Jaguar wheel trims, an unbalanced headlamp arrangement or simply ungainly front nacelle/grill and naff styled chrome side trim. And then there was the 412/Beaufighter turbo (which I quite liked). Bottom line for me was the dodgy corrosion protection (from adjoining steel and alloy body components) and poor wearing upholstery and it's new price even higher than Rolls Royces.
One car i've never owned or driven is a Bristol, Not sure why ,

I imagine someone like a eccentric very English playwright would drive one along with a long cigarette holder

wearing a cravat ,well that's how i visualise how a Bristol driver would look like. scratchchin

Camaros may have been big cars on UK roads once, but check mine out next to a Porsche Macan midsize SUV and (on the right) Ford Focus.

Times have changed.

Suggest that a typical Bristol driver/owner would quite possibly be the type of person to wear a brown country suit in town - or brown shoes with a blue suit and perhaps a day or two of beard growth.

Thanks for posting that Aero........I really hope they at the very least lubed-up the bores with that can of WD40 before towing with that forklift thingy.........and those quad cams......the thought of running those 'dry' initially is worrying.
Let see how they get on - https://youtu.be/x6PCy0YZNx4

If you venture out this way for a run, on 2nd Sunday morning of each month there is a hot rod/classic yank/classic car bacon sarnie/breakfast meet at the Pine Ridge Golf Club in Old Bisley Rd, between Bagshot and Frimley.

Oooh! Good to know. What time? I have small kids so tend to need to organise...

My car lives in V.Water, where I grew up, and I am there quite a bit!

ETA: just checked diary and I have stuff planned for every second weekend until autumn, dammit.

Huge building sites everywhere with large banners telling potential buyers how great it would be to live bye the sea!!

I actually live in inner London, so not great here either with ULEZ, LTNs and insane traffic! My Chevy enjoys a life in rather more car-friendly Surrey...

This is why I flip flop on selling the car. To use it lots I'd have to move it to London. But a big block manual with no aircon makes for a challenging London car. Yet out in Surrey, a 427 Camaro is great fun and I can do long, fun runs in it. But rarely used at around once a month in summer, less in winter.

Yep.
I wished I'd started looking to move out of London in 2016 rather than waiting until 2018/19.

Lots of classic yank/hot rod owners out my way (no doubt helped by having NAMCO just down the road, as well as Wheels Day was until this year) and as well as the monthly Bagshot Breakie meet, in the summer there's the once a month midweek evening hot rod/classic yank meet at the Harte&Magpie about 7-8mins north of J2 of the M40, which from where I am can be done in about 45mins.
Plus for me, I've got the infamous BrackPack on my doorstep, and the place they meet up during summer months is so close I could walk to it if it wasn't for the fact there is no footpath along the short 300yrds of M-Way link between my place and the road the pub is on laugh

'Fact' is that at one time moving away from London was perhaps far more logical 'then' than today. I always told myself that living in an outer suburb was great - it was so convenient, much quieter than inner parts, traveling was better when working providing you avoided the morning rush hour and left out for work after 9:30/10:00am it would be an easy and pleasant drive into the centre. Going 'out' of London was even better........you'd be having an easy journey coming out of London at any time whilst everyone was queueing for miles trying to 'get in'. Yes the logic also of cheaper properties further afield made sense too..........but, over the years that suburban peace and quiet and relaxed living has gradually eroded.......all on the crap and issues that were part of living in many central London boroughs made their way to the outer areas........those peaceful times have gone........those cheaper properties away from London still exist.....but the ones you really want......you know, the ones with a bit of space, plenty of greenery, great garaging etc can be even more expensive than in London itself. No doubt due to demand. And all the crime, drugs, stabbings, muggings and burglaries.......much of that got exported out of London too didn't it?

The main problem with lving by 'the sea' is the fact that when living and wanting to go anywhere out of the area you have limited options in terms of what roads you use. If (for example) you lived at Southend-on-Sea the two main roads leaving the area head east. If you wanted to head North, say towards Suffolk you'll need to go about 5 miles of so before you can find the A130 heading towards and linking-up with the A12 at Chelmsford.
You can't travel south because the Thames is in the way. Its only after a 20 mile or so journey on the A127 that you 'hit' the M25 or if using the A13 the QE2 bridge. Other 'seaside' towns are similarly affected with only three directions to come and go, so usually coastal roads, and if lucky one major road across country.

Not just London , Bournemouth use to be a lovely town ,quite posh and very posh if you live in Sandbanks ,

I spent most of my time there both in pleasure and working as it was so close,

Now i by-pass it rather than go any where near it, There's a life threatening stabbing every week and at least one murder a mouth if not more,

Rapes are almost daily thing and everywhere you go including the beach there's a aroma of cannabis in the air,

The shopping centre which use to boast high end shops are mostly closed and looking sorry for themselves with

stickers plastered all over the windows, Got the usual beggars, druggies and unsavoury characters both foreign and English,

Parts of the town are now have divided area's and communties ,Polish , Lithuanian ,Romanian and a very large Turkish sector.

Some places you wouldn't walk through there during the day let alone at night and this week i herd the third brothel

in the town centre has just been closed down, The Hotels are now full of illegal Asian immigrants instead of tourists spending their money with the local

shop keepers in the short season they have Parking is at a crazy £18 all day soon to go up if anywhere near the beach and cycle lanes

wider than car lanes so bad that Fire Trucks and ambulances can't get through even when cars try to move over for them because they have

made the pavement to high and will damage your wheels and front panels ,

Sounds like any other town i know but 20/30 years ago it was regarded like a 5 star hotel amongst sea side resorts in the Uk.

Was thinking about moving to the I.O.W ,in most it's like going back to the 50's /60's and property is cheaper as there's very few jobs for the younger.

And it would be a good excuse to buy your own boat so you can get to the mainland anytime you wanted instead on relying on those ferries, yes

Maybe I moan too much !
Trouble is I take it personally, my little town has been and is being rapped by these aresoles !
But I guess it’s just the way it is !
Sometimes when we walk along the sea wall I can still hear the sounds of howling 2 strokes , a pair of Black Max’s on a Phantom or Tiger shark 21,
The ski club car park used to be rammed with em, now poxy Teslas and weird looking people covered in tattoos!
Mental world,
Seasalter was a shanty town, old huts and lean to’s sitting on the shingle, now 2 million pound glass menageries looking out to sea,
It’s like living on another planet !
Ok back to the here and now !
The Fireturds being collected Wednesday morning,
The garage is cleared, the B’ will be ousted and covered up on the drive , game on !!!

Have quite a few friends who live in Bournemouth, and while they still do love it there, there is now a 'but' that creeps into conversations. One couple are seriously thinking of moving inland away from the coast.

Southend-on-Sea (or Southend-on Mud as we used to call it) has been a crap place for many years. Like so many coastal resorts with hotels, guest houses and B & B accomodation, come winter and the quiet season and owners presumably looking for revenue filled the places with supposed homeless people, druggies and ex prisoners and more recently asylum seekers and illegals awaiting approvals.......and the the town changes.......irretreivably!
