Back in 2009 brother in law had a superbird and a dodge charger daytona.
Shipped the daytona to California and we drove it to the welbourne museum for the opening and then drove it round Talladega before the 500 with another 50 or so daytonas and superbird..
Then on to don garlits car show then back to California to ship it home.
6500 miles and a lot of filling up of gas .
Five times a day in a twenty gallon tank

Is it worth checking out a c4 Corvette? I think the later years are sorted in regards to looks, engine and trans if you want a manual. They are creeping up in price.

The daytona with 06 on the side had a car trailer from palm springs to Talladega and back to palm springs.

Fabulous.
Love the F6 Bright Green Daytona, such a great colour, and one of the rarest on the Daytona.

Corvette it is then!
Main problem with 'vette's (like any car of that era) is rust, and especially the birdcage on a 'vette.
Difficult to check on the birdcage though isn't it...?
Yeah, not easy, but Roscobbc is yer man for C3 'vette knowledge and info thumbup
Any 'reputable' seller should be sensibly prepared for a prospective buyer to ask to see the 'birdcage'. Best thing is to ask for the driver and passenger 'kick panels' to be removed. Its not really a big deal - the seller can always then leave them off for the next 'buyer' (they'll probably want to take a look) the condition of the lower part of the 'birdcage' where it affixes to the left and right chassis rails can be easily seen. This is a major structural feature and helps add strength and rigidity to the whole car. The other 'test' is to jack up one side of the car from the OEM fsuggested front jacking point - a dodgy birdcage or chassis will possibly mean that you won't be able to open one or both of the doors - or it you do open them they won't shut. The seller will be unwilling to let you remove upper window trim to inspect the screen surround (and part of the bird cage) which also corrodes - whilst perhaps not so critical in terms of chassis integrity. Water leaks on to the carpet when its raining are indicative perhaps of attention needed.......

"Any Cougar would do really"! - Nothing wrong with a 289 or 302 or even a 351.....but if you are going all out to get yourself a car, why not step-up a bit. OK so a 428 CJ will be unattainable but a 390 could just 'slip under the radar' in terms of affordable price. A manual one of those would be a real treat to drive in performance terms.

Yes, a S-code 4-speed Cougar would be cool (a Bullitt Mustang in a posh frock in effect) smile

Ford's 390 cu in engine in GT spec' in a Mustang is a nice gutsy drive. The real secret is to find it in something else perhaps less 'noticeable' (like a Cougar, Fairlane or Cyclone)
