RR any luck with your sales?
Seems to be tons of motors for sale, almost without exception all hugely over priced, so for the next few months a watch and wait ploy is what i intend to do, like youve said something may well drop in my lap!

I'l just wait till the end of October to see what happens at work, if no major changes i'l order the bits for the Challenger,

And also going to forget about an early TA , feels like Deja vu laugh
Got messed around big time awhile back, buggered if im going back for a second beating lol..........................................
I love em' but i'l never be able to afford one now!..............................................................................................................................
Looking forward to the next stage of your Challenger, Treat it to some more goodies will make it more special than it already is.

Time is on your side what with winter, Christmas around the corner and this censored virus,

It's a buyers market if my lack of interest in my ad is anything to go by, not even a tyre kicker .

Once you know which way your jobs going your know what direction to go in.

Good weather predicted for the weekend so no guessing what your be doing.

With no Members Meeting ,Festival of Speed or Revival all being cancelled his year i'm looking forward to watching Goodwood Speed Week

live on the internet this weekend starting Friday through to Sunday ,Be glued to it for the whole 3 days ,

Sad i know but even next years fixtures looks doubtful so this will be my fix for now

ITV4 televising it daily as well but only a couple of hours a day i believe,

Just hanging on a for a awhile longer, got an appointment with the consultant on the 11th Of November, so hopefully i may get a date for my Op,
There's a lot of stuff for sale that's been around for months, so im guessing its not easy to get a sale, however very little for sale around here,
thats even vaguely affordable for average folk.
There's two cars down the A3 that work depending i may go look at, a world apart vehicle wise, but may be worth the time if we dont get another lock down , down here??
If that happens i cant see my firm surviving if its a long term shutdown, talking to a couple of guys i know who worked for rival companies have just been made redundant , plus about 10 drivers, so its looking grim!

How do you think i feel, had one and sold it to pay the taxman, not even buying another toy.
In hindsight i should have sold the 59 El Camino i had at the same time or got a loan.

Paid £12,500 for it from the guy who owned it for 24 years and he had the dilemma whether to sell the T/A or his concours Wedge Mach 1,
I sold it for £16,500 so we both got it wrong but i was under pressure at the time.

Not as bad as a 246 Dino that i paid same money as T/A needing a paint, sold it for £ 20k painted. what's that worth today.

Every thing is going to take a knock but think the yank market will far better than some British classic's,have you seen how many E Types and Healey's at silly money are for sale.

Semi classic Ferrari's and Lamboghini's will drop big time but the proper classic ones 's 50's/70's have already dropped loads so may level off.
Any thing ultra rare will be ok, They are treated like art.
.

The wrapped Charger 500 is one of my old cars, i bought it from a Arab who bought it from his wealthy Arab boss who lived in Marbella some of the time.
It went from Californna to Spain where he had a few cars so never got used much.

Was a lovely orginal car with no rust apart from a very small amount in the boot floor.
Had a very dark green original vinyl roof and interior which was like new, still retains both.
Paintwork was also original with one or two marks but nothing serious.

Never checked it but pretty sure she's matching numbers.

Drove like new but was a bit of a barge compared to the Challenger, not that quick, steering to light and vague and floaty.

I paid £4,500 which was cheap even then ,so cheap that it worried me that maybe it wasn't his to sell being still on California plates and no way of checking it out the usual way..

I sold it to Alan Carrington ,from memory he gave me £5,500 plus a really nice Iroc Camaro which went and handled better than the Charger.
He painted the car and put new Torque Thrusts on it ,I think even back then (aprox 13/14 years ago) he was asking £27k.

I sold the Iroc for £5,750 so got £11,250 for the Charger but had to sell 2 cars to do it but didn't touch either car.

He sold it to a banker in London, think i mentioned it in one of my post's who lived at the Chelsea Harbour ,
After it overheated in the Kings Rd he phoned Alan and asked him to sort it out and sell it for him as the novelty had worn off and didn't really go with his new Rolls,Ferrari and Porsche.

So Alan got to sell it twice,I saw it at the N.E.C classic car show 3/4 years ago and the paintwork was still really good even under the strong lights. it was on display rather than for sale.

As long as the wrap doesn't damage the paint it should be as i saw it.

I would leave the wrap on just take that silly scull and crossbones off, just for the winter ,Would protect the paint and at least could be driven and maybe even left outside .

Once the wrap was off my O.C,D would kick in and i would valet it to death ,lock it away and not use it until the summer.

It's also on the "The Market" on line auction as well as E Bay ,top bid at the moment is £18,250 so a long way from £30k on E Bay,

Seeing 68/69's at £60k to £100k plus, because i know the car i don't think it's dear at £30k but less would be better ,the price of a restorable Mustang fastback probably not registered that's been sitting in a field for a while ,people will worry what's under the wrap and although it's the original colour it's more Caprice than Charger.

If you are thinking about going for it, You won't find a more rust free unrestored Charger apart from the repaint.
It's the wright shape just with the wrong front, wonder if you can change the front to a 68/69 without to much trouble.

Yes you nailed it, weary is a good way of putting how the majority of the nation are feeling now it's winter.
Think most of us have been in a summer bubble especially as the good weather started in March till now.

They've cancelled every thing this year so lets hope they cancel Christmas ,I known a lot of people like it but never worked out why.
Sorry to butt in on your excellent conversation but I have to ask if the Charger 500 was green? If it was I drove that for Alan Carrington at a show in Essex. Lovely car. He was always after my 59 Impala 2-door hardtop, used to refer to it as 'his car' for a laugh. As you're in the south (I think) you may have seen it about, it's black with Torq Thrusts, 348/tripower/4-speed. Great cars that have owned/own, kind of my taste too. Oh, are you after a 55-57 T-bird? Guy I know has a 57, been here from new, he wants I think 25k for it with the original plate TYK4. It's on the road, solid etc, based in Solihull.

59 Impala welcome aboard!
Yes it was green, but it had been wrapped , in err Matt Green !
a well known figure on Mopars said it was'nt looking to great, and had deteriorated quite badly, but it still was a good price and i guess the old girl will get some TLC and carry on rolling!

The 59 sounds like a machine, had no idea one could be had with a Tri Power set up and a 4 Speed tranny , Do you still have American cars?
were life long aficionados or just weird depending on ones point of view ! laugh

Thanks for the welcome! Yes Chevys with the 348 'W' motor could be bought with tripower from 1958-61. '59 was the first year that the full size cars could be ordered with a four speed but Corvettes took precedence so many, like mine, began life with a three on the tree. Mine is the 280hp version but the highest for a 59 was 335hp, later increased to 350hp by 1961. I still have the Impala, in fact you will see it on the 'Show us your Yank' page in the garage next to my Anglia. I've had it for 31 years now, still get a kick out of driving it and rowing it through the four speed. It isn't mint but it's a useable car and, ahem, won its class at the 2007 Goodwood Festival of Speed, Cartier bit. I've owned about 30 US vehicles, driven loads more, been driven in others etc. You know how it goes. Hope the Charger is being loved, it always amazes me how people spend loads to buy something nice and then don't care for it properly. Hopefully photo of the Impala below.

Can't have another total lock down as English as we are the country won't put up with it especially with winter coming on ,

Depressing as it was before at least it was spring with the weather being more like summer at least we could go in the garden

or for a run, walk or in my case a cycle ,try that in mid winter for pleasure,

Bankruptcies and redundancies will quadruple along with divorces and suicides with the added pressures

so it can't happen and as far away from the real world the politicians know this and are treading a fine line what every they do next.

Hopefully although you are hearing negative news from others in your line of work unless your company close completely

they will need someone with your versatile talents. Sorry get off my soap box, now ,i know it's a car forum but we gone so far off thread

don't think it really matters.

Ye still lots of to expensive unsold cars out there but like today a noticed a very nice 68 Mustang fastback in blue for £69,995 which if i'm not mistaken was on for £59,950 privately last week which i thought at the time was to expensive so who's wright or wrong,

Loving the 59 Impala ,The perfect sleeper with the only give away being the Torque Thrusts,

Lovely it's been owned for 31 years ,wish i could be that content, don't get me wrong i would love to keep

almost every car i owned as i bought them for a reason but i seem to either run out of room or need the money for the next one on my wish list.

Hear you polished the Challenger today ,hope you will be driving it tomorrow as sounds like we are in for a damp week

Been glued to Goodwood Speed Week for 2 days 3 including today, really only like the big Lola's,GT40's E Types,Cobra's and the Saloon

edge of the seat racing, Although having had a couple of single seaters i still seem to get bored watching them.

At first went on the You Tube's ITV live scream which was rubbish, since when has Dermot OLeary been a car guy.

Went on Goodwood. Road Race live scream and while the ITV were wittering on about the history of motoring while missing all the racing that the Goodwood site was showing .

I think being tv people they were doing it for family entertainment rather than the proper petrol heads, sorry for rant .

Small world ,Haven't spoke to Alan since last years Classic Car Show at the NEC , Lovely car that Charger but didn't find it that exciting for a

Muscle car.I might even know you as i use to go to the Guildford cruise and the Ace and most of the shows with Alan.

I'm sure i've seen your Impala a few times at various show's,looks very familiar ,not many black 59's if any especially with the Torque Thrusts ,most

have either polished alloys or wide whites with the original hub caps, from memory there's a red 59 the the same wheels that drag races.

Didn't realise it had a tripower 348 and manual, that's so rare ,worth a fortune in the states.

The only other tripower Impala i know of is my mates blue one with a 409 which you probably have seen.

I had a 60 manual Impala coupe some years ago but it was only a 3 speed.

Like you i had a 67 Cougar on the Cartier lawn at Goodwood but i didn't win anything, my mate did with his Shelby clone Mustang pick up.

They said they couldn't pay me but got an invite to the grand ball, entry to all the VIP places and lunch on Sundays prize giving along with 4

free tickets for each of the 4 days ,Not wanting to be there for the whole 4 days i give most of the tickets to mates.

Not having a monkey suit and getting confused with more than one set of knlfe and forks i passed on the ball which i've always regretted as

the Beach Boys were playing.

Ye was looking for a 57 T/Bird ,had a 55 but think the 57 with the fins look so much better,

Newsatten had a beautiful white one a few years ago,

I'm hanging on to see if a early T/A that has been offered to me might happen,It's not cheap and still trying to get my head around

the price but if it's negotiable will have a go at buying it.

Sold one of my cars recently and got another advertised to help pay for it but if it doesn't happen i could be interested.

Congratulations on having the sense of keeping the Impala for 31 years ,Most people don't keep there wives that long.

You will probably have seen my '59, I used to live in Eltham, a few years in Margate then back to Welling/Bexleyheath. I'm now in South Lincs. I used to see Alan a fair bit, he did some work on the Impala and I think he was always after it but never got his cash out, he would offer me another car but I would to give him money as well. Well he is a car dealer :-). Before the 59 I had a 61 Impala bubbletop which was gold/white, had a 250hp 348 with a Turboglide auto. It was a lovely car but I really wanted another 59 so when on a trip to the US in 1988 I got contacts for this one, it was owned by a woman from Poughkeepsie New York but it is a California car. It crossed the ocean in February 1989 to Liverpool and a friend and I went up by train to collect it. It was on steels and wide whites then. Drove it back down to Margate and it didn't miss a beat but it did like to use a bit of oil. Over the years it's had a bare metal respray, disc brakes, new heavy duty springs, KYB gas shocks, rear sway bar, poly bushes etc, does actually go around corners now, And stops too. It was featured in the August 1999 issue of Classic & Sportscar when on the steels.
Great that you also got an invite to Goodwood, my car was also invited to the 1999 Revival Meeting which unfortunately was wet and windy. Also managed to sneak it into the circuit in later years, parked it near Astons, Ferraris, Merc Gullwings etc. And guess which car got most attention? It probably annoyed the owners of those high end cars. Shame that you missed the ball, it was excellent in 2007, the food was okay (I'm a fussy eater), the outside entertainment superb, especially the firework display. We then went into the marquee where a woman was singing, my friend said that she looked like Belinda Carlisle to which I replied that is because she is her. Saw Jenson Button and Davis Coulthard just standing there a few feet away, shook hands with Andy Green the World Land Speed record holder etc. Superb night.
Funnily enough a friend also has a GT350R replica, 347ci stroker, 5-speed Tremec, roll cage, correct rear window etc. It used a lot of the parts from the '66 GT350 that he used to race very successfully. He still has the road car but the racer was sold a few years ago. He used to own a model car shop and I was a customer before becoming a friend and sometimes part time employee.
The red Impala that drag races belongs to a guy I know, it runs a small block Chevy and is very quick for a big car. My car is quick for what it is but I would love to either own a 409 car as they didn't make them in 1959 or put a 409 in mine like that of your friend. I think I saw his car at Wheels Day some years ago, very nice it is too. Can I have his engine, lol?
Our paths must have crossed on numerous occasions over the years!

Oh meant to say that I agree with your rant about Goodwood, vacuous nonentities spouting rubbish about stuff that I have zero interest in. Dermot O'Leary seems to be a nice guy but how does he get to have a free ride in a Spitfire? I don't think he knows much about cars. the only good guy there is Mark Webber. Proper car guy. I couldn't believe that they didn't show the saloon race on the Youtube channel this morning, so annoying but I watched it on my computer. The live track stream is pretty good although some of the the stuff going on is a bit rubbish. And no Anglias in a '60's saloon race? Sacrilege, lol. I do love the 105E.

Having another rant this morning, couldn't get back into the same live scream as Friday or yesterday after several attempts gave up and had to put up Dermot.mad

Yes it's nice when you upstage the tweeds ,I managed to get my 61 Caddy Convertible on the banking at one of the Revival's surrounded
by the usual beautiful XK's,E Types,Healey's ect, the Caddy got more attention mainly from the glamorously dressed woman having there photo's taken by it all day. The same happens even in London.

I've bought some models from that shop, I could have come out with a hundred and still wanted more.
It's just off Leicester Square ,i haven't been there for years ,is he still there,

I've seen his Shelby R ,the first time at Wheels day and was convinced it was genuine one it was that accurate plus not many were doing clones back then,I got some photo's of it somewhere,I read a article on both his Shelby's i think it was in Classic and Sportscar it said the R cost him almost or as much to build as a real one barring in mind it wasn't at todays prices.

I should have the issue of Classic and Sportscar that features your Impala as being a sad git i've got every one since the first edition in 73
but would take me 6 months to find it,

Remember my mum having a 105E Super,My dad took it in p/ex against her MK2 Spitfire, after that she had a brand new MK 1 Escort XL then a 3,000 mile Capri Classic 2 seater shape.

There's a guy who i bump into a lot at Goodwood and he's got a lovely 105E in the original medium grey colour and apart from it's lowered a bit and Minilights wheels looks almost stock ,He's got a Red Top 2 litre Vauxhall on Webers and 5 speed hidden away under the bonnet, Like you he's had it years and just keeps on improving it.

As you say our paths have probably crossed ,I know so many people by face or car rather than by name.

That GT40 belongs to DK Engineering ,they had 4 other cars at Goodwood, there twenty something son James Cottingham drives them all . . To be far he does know how to drive having won at least one of races and second places in the others

Bought a 308 GT4 from his dad ,my first decent car after my eye watering divorce. The funny part i'd owned the same car some 10 years previous after buying it from the original owner who bought it new and paid more money for it the second time.

They got a You Tube Channel with their own cars and stock, nothing much under a million ,The GT40 is featured on at least 4 of the video's ,Spa 6 hours,Le Mans Classic,The French Tour Auto road race and one together with there new Ford GT, well worth a look if your into GT40's,

The boys are a bit snobby but the dads a real sweetheart, really nice guy that started from nothing.

All the races were exciting but the most edge of the seat race for me was the Stirling Moss Memorial Trophy ,Mainly E Types ,Cobra's and Healey's with a couple of 250 S.W,B throw in,

Rob Huff was pushing James Cottingham to the limit never seen such close paint swapping racing ,watched Huff one year at the Rivival overtake a Ferrari completely sideways in his E Type with a flapping damaged bonnet which was blocking his vision just as they they were going into the chicane, never seen anything like it , The race is on You Tube already as a separate video.

When GTD went bust the liquidator was only a couple miles from me,they had both the GTD40 and theLola T70 demo cars for sale.
The highest bid on the GTD40 was £20k and £12k on the T70 probably 20/25 years ago maybe more but i was still licking my wounds from the divorce.

I followed a local doctor in his GTD40 one day in town ,I had quite a long chat with him when he pulled into a electrical garage, poor guy, hope he wasn't in a hurry , graphite grey with no stripe which is unusual, it had a stroked 351 full race engine engine which he had built in the States, he also had the brakes and suspension uprated as both weak points with GTD using Granada parts for the brakes as standard ,the exhaust was a work of art in it self. The car has recently been advertised in the north now sporting a blue stripe and nose.

As well as a F40 i would have one of those Super Performance GT40 and one of their Corvette Grand Sports with my lottery winning, thank you, Sorry you shouldn't have started me off on GT40's, can you tell i'm obsessed with them.
Went to see the GT40 and Ferrari film twice and just bought the DVD , sad old git.

So the 'Le Mans 66' DVD is out? Well that's going on my Xmas present list, my mum always asks my brother to get the ball rolling bless her. And I adore GT40's and T70's as well, I remember going to Brands for the BOAC 6 Hour races in 1968/9 and loving them. Right, I am now tired and hungry, time to get cooking!

Brands BOAC<now your showing your age. Don't know if you've seen the film when it was doing the rounds ,set in period so some nice 50's/60' cars in the back grounds,

Opportunity missed when the GTD40 and T70 came up,being demo cars they were nicely finished, the GT40 was in graphite grey with yellow
stripe 302 lump and the T70 was yellow with a 383 Chevy, A few weeks later the same liquidators had a 246 Dino spyder for £27k
so puts the prices then in prospective, The Dino now would be worth somewhere round £280k/£325k and the GTD40 £85k ish.

As Newsatten would say c'est la vie.

That engine wants to be in my living room, That must be scary fast, even more scary when you get to the twisty bits.

The Challenger looks an honest car, description says paintwork not perfect with some marks, love the dog dish caps on steels, I found these 10 yard cars are more enjoyable than a mint one, spend more time driving it instead of polishing and less worry where you park it,doesn't matter if you get caught out in the rain, and people still go wow when you pull up any where, Ye, I thought £25/£30 might be some where around the reserve just for of it being a manual 440,

Making these Mustangs look expensive ,A local dealer who normally sell top end Ferrari's and Lambo's have advertised on here a 68
notch back for £40k, looks a nice car with some upgrades , there's so many for sale can there be that many buyers out there, Most Mustang buyers now seem to be fist time yank buyers and wouldn't even know what a Challenger is,

That white TVR Griffith 500 sold for £18k in HH Auction, didn't think that was a bad price considering it's a 500,

It was weird how that stream on Youtube would miss races especially the Group 1 sprint race which was excellent, how everyone missed that rolled Mini was amazing.

I have to admit to liking to upset/annoy the tweeds and classic car snobs (of which there are plenty on this forum, see the thread about a guy thinking of buying a Vauxhall FB VX4/90 as an example). There are a few people who really don't like American cars which is fine but they can be so snotty about it and then they get into their common as muck MGB, lol. I like all sorts of cars and commercials and have a model car collection to prove it :-) But I cannot stand those that look down their noses at stuff, very narrow minded. The Impala always steals attention away from other stuff, even the Anglia does that as people of a certain age remember them, one guy was almost in tears because his father had had two and it brought back memories. Plus my Anglia is the oldest and is original, everyone thinks that it's been restored.

The shop was in St Martin's Lane, sadly it's no longer there and has been replaced by a coffee/sandwich shop, sigh. An imposter shop sprang up just around the corner, even used most of the name and the colour scheme, cheeky sods. I spent a fair few bob in the shop, worked there part time for a couple of years, loved going there and we became very good friends. I used to help out on the race team of the two Mustangs and two Sunbeam Tigers, it was good fun. Ralph was a very good driver and won a lot of races in his Shelby GT350 and won the championship outright once.

Yes the GT350R replica was at Wheels Day a few times, it's really well built. Oh and very very quick. It was my support vehicle for the 2011 Revival where my Anglia was part of the 100 years of Ford in the UK bit, we sneaked the Mustang into the circuit as it's a cool car. I recall that it was featured in Classic American, could well have been in C&S especially as when the shop was open Mick Walsh would visit to photograph models for the magazine.

Anglia's are pretty cool especially when nicely modified. My aunt had a Super as well, it was a nice car. Mine is as I said very original, is a very early car and has 32k on the clock. I'm the third owner, next month will mark 20 years of ownership. I drove it for the first time in two years recently and it ran perfectly and drove nicely.

As regards my age, I turned 66 a couple of weeks ago, I was 13 when I went to Brands back in 1968, used to catch the Green Line bus from Eltham to the circuit. And that year the JW GT40 won the BOAC race, hooray.
