I had 'patina' cars when they were described back in the day as pieces of rusting, over compounded and polished junk.
Inadvertently you probably invented the rat look rosco.Crazy world ,hot rodders painted there cars satin black because they couldn't afford a repaint ,
Move on 50/60 years Lamborghini and their like are charging £25K extra to do the same to their customers cars.
and think they just invented it.

When i had my orange 64 Galaxie it had number 44 in black on the side and a single racing stripe running from the bonnet
to the boot on the left hand side, I would constantly get ye ha yelled at me and calling it the General Lee.
I know someone, that 40 odd years later, still says Dukes of Hazard is one of his favourite TV shows from his youth, but he isn't much of a car fan, and knows the square root of FA about yank cars and still to this day, doesn't know what make/model of car the General Lee is (or really cares about that anal level of detail)to the boot on the left hand side, I would constantly get ye ha yelled at me and calling it the General Lee.
I've seen everything from Robin Reliant to Granada's painted in General Lee colours and i'm sure they would think
they were the real thing.if your not interested your not interested.

Thinking about this car and specifically the effect from behind of the huge rear lights. One autumn Sunday evening I was driving westbound on the A12 Eastern Avenue in Romford, and just about to turn off left to go home after the weekly Sunday car cruise out from Seven Kings out to one of a number of pubs in Navestock or Ongar. This at times was quite an event with up to 40 or 50 cars and frequently quite manic. Anyway, with only about half a mile or so between the North Street and Mawney Road traffic lights after twisty country roads at about 11pm it was the final chance to giving the 7 Litre its head on a virtually clear bit of dual carriageway before going home. I blasted away from the lights leaving some guy on a Honda CB250 a fair way behind. Bearing in mind this was a cold, wet night and the twin large bore exhausts would be putting out a quite a large amount of condensation (after being held back throught the sticks)........anyway I'm now stationary waiting to turn left at the next set of nights, get home and park-up for the night. The biker dick pulls-up alongside my open driver window and says "nice car mate, sounds great, its really quick but there's something wrong with the engine - its putting out loads of red exhaust smoke"!. The rear brake lights on the Galaxie were so bright and intense the that the dick riding the Honda could only see the white exhaust smoke as red in colour though the reflection off the road surface behind.........

I assume the Galaxie was awaiting paint, Nowadays you would be doing the opposite and stripping the shinny paint off.

As you say, that's just how it was back then.
There was a maroon (well it was once) '57 Bel-Air 4 door post sedan that lived a couple of roads away from me in West London that looked like that back in the mid 70's.......looked like it had had an underbonnet fire at some stage, as hood top paint was all blistered and rusted, ran a set of corroded slot mags and a black tuck n roll interior that was likely done in the USA in the 60's.......might have a photo of it somewhere, that I took on my little pocket 110 camera I used to carry around when out cycling around the local roads looking for interesting cars

dinosaurs that nobody wanted,
Remember going to Lincoln Motors on the Great West Rd ,Brentford with my dad, they were the main American Ford ,Mercury
and Lincoln agents, not sure if i got the name 100% right, This must have been in the 60's Went up in his 55 Fairlane coupe that he
bought while on holiday in Jersey of all places for £250 in 1959,It was stuck in a corner covered in dust in a main Vauxhall agents,The sales
man thought we were mad as nobody in Jersey wanted it being so big, remember a line of 50's and 60's Thunderbirds, later Fairlanes and
Galaxie's parked outside the workshops at Brenford, love to go back in time and have another look

Buy it, or else! So there! It needs saving coz it's RHD! Those alloys would look great on my Biturbo, if only they were five bolt jobs instead of four bolt....
Bet you wished you waited now, should buy the Merak instead of the Biturbo NOT In away it's so cheap but don't know what you would do with it,
wheels and gearbox looks the only things worth saving,

Love to see the faces of the Maserati owners club members when you turn up on the lawn with it,
Would be a repeat of me getting thrown out of the VSCC meet in my 3 window .

Its only a Merek after all, so not really worth saving, as its basically half Citroen FFS.

Almost bought one back late 80's or early 90's ,can't remember now, worst super car i've ever driven ,Its only a Merek after all, so not really worth saving, as its basically half Citroen FFS.
So slow but it did have a blow on the manifold which didn't help , hated the Citroen steering and brakes,
Could have been just that car, it felt really tired.
Newsatten use to own one , i'm sure his must have been a better car than this one was.

Sat in a petrol station this morning and a guy pulls up alongside me in a lovely maroon '72 Ranchero. Really nice looking thing. It was plain and basic, in a very good way, by which I mean it hadn't had any obvious tat bolted on, although possibly non-standard wheels. Had a good chat with him, he said he'd had one years ago when his daughter was born and had to sell it then, and got back into one after she had grown up. Nice to see!
I quite like this - not a V8, but a fun cruiser for 10k.
Seems straight and original.

The lack of a V8 is easily fixed Seems straight and original.

Its a 3 pedal car already, so just needs the tunnel sorted and drop a Tremec 5-speed into it with a sbf or bbf, and the column change removed.
Not really convinced by that blue and red interior.......that's pretty horrific despite the price tag, and its an odd style as well, not very in keeping with the period..
Shame someone couldn't be arsed to clean the protection coating off the new white walls for the photos
