I like your thinking - it needs a proper engine smile
Its only a Merek after all, so not really worth saving, as its basically half Citroen FFS.
Almost bought one back late 80's or early 90's ,can't remember now, worst super car i've ever driven ,

So slow but it did have a blow on the manifold which didn't help , hated the Citroen steering and brakes,

Could have been just that car, it felt really tired.

Newsatten use to own one , i'm sure his must have been a better car than this one was.

laugh

once i got used to brakes and handling, i really liked the car, such a great looking thing i could forgive whatever sort comings it may of had,
the rear buttress's and its Butt in general was/is a joy.................................................. one things for sure the eye candy loved it....

Yeah, the interior may be an acquired taste... A mate at home had a Galaxy with a 390 in it that would lay rubber for days - looks like they came with a 427 or 428 engine as well.

In terms of 'style' the Galaxie for most people seemed to have lost its way after '67. 390's were a good base engine to start-off with - beware of getting one that started out as a 2 barrel - super low compression and power. 428's introduced in '66 were effectively the 'swan song' for the old FE block. Early '66 428's had block distortion issues. Still it was the base block (albeit with 427 medium riser heads) for the famed 428 CJ engines. Galaxies (or any Ford/Mercury) are very rare with genuine 427 cu in engines (and hardly plentiful with 428's) . At that time both GM and Mopar were way ahead of Ford in terms of engine design - Ford's FE made do with potty little valves - even GM's cooking 427's had bigger valves than FoMoCo's big block. Ford potentially turned things around with the 429/460 '385' series lumps - far more potential 'back in the day' for more power ('70/'71 429 CJ/SCJ)......but then emissions came along in '72 and killed OEM performance for most manufacturers except perhaps Pontiac........

And yet it was FoMoCo and Mopar that ruled the NASCAR circuits and Ford had 4 Lemans wins with the 289 and the 427 FE lumps.....

The valve/port size issue on the FE was solved with the tunnel port head design for the small block and the big block FE motors - bloody rare though, and an over the counter part.

Of course Ford solved both issues with the 427 SOHC before NASCAR banned it, and then later again with the BOSS 429, and BOSS 302.

Such a shame that GM board pulled Chevy and Pontiac from racing involvement. I wonder how many NASCAR wins GM would have taken from Ford and Chrysler over the next decade?

I forgot about small and medium block Ford engines - arguably Ford's 289/302 was perhaps superior to GM's 'small' block in many respects. It was also signicantly lighter than the SBC. The 'trick' heads like tunnel ports and those for the SOHC engine would have never made production status - FoMoCo would have never lived with the potential warranty claims. However Ford were very clever - Boss 302, Cleveland 4bbl 351 and 429 CJ/SCJ were all produced with inlet tracts far too big for street use - engines were 'comprimised' and had poor low end torque. Who would have thought that the 'hot' tip on the street for a 351 Cleveland was a 2 barrel carb? - Ford had plans (if not for the emission clamp-down) to increase the capacity of 429 CJ/SCJ engines to 500+ cubic inches - the oversized inlets would have worked very well then.........

The tunnel-ports heads for the FE and the 289/302 were 'production' items, and were homologated as such, and if you went to a dealer with the right 'connections' you could tick the right options box and get a tunnel port equipped car built by the factory. It was a bit like the COPO setup that Chevy had.
Obviously you had to be in the know, as the relevant tick-box wasn't on the regular dealer options listings.
Car and Driver I think it was, back in the day famously did a road test of a full Trans Am optioned '68 Mustang coupe complete with TP heads and other goodies vs. a '68 Z/28 Camaro with cross-ram induction and other 'production' goodies.

Reminds me of what we used to call an AP5 at home, the aussie version. Most had a 225 slant 6.I likle that one.

This model is the one after, an AP6:

Have to say I really like the Plymouth coupe - just as it is and a great alternative exactly as is to a Falcon or similar compact. Having said that can you image it with front buckets styled and upholstered like the 'bench' seats?. Valiant is a nice bit of 'tongue in cheek' engineering but I'd rather see the work applied to a coupe bodied car.

Yes i like that, nice size and colour, most will have a 6 pot, looks very usable and a little different when going to a car show.

The 65 Barracuda on "The Market" went off not sold at £5,300 eek, I know there not loved but this one is LHD most

being RHD here and is very clean, surly everybody must be asleep sleep ," The Market" has it on E-Bay at around £12K so a long

way off reserve i should imagine.

Sorry last time i pasted was when i was decorating , Seem to remember those 67 Valiants Regals driving around

when they were new in RHD form, then as a second hand bargain when they were 10 yearsold, nowyou don't see

them at all,I'm sure there was one drag racing a few years ago, Where they made in Australia under licence .

This one looks a little naughty evil ,The perfect sleeper i would have thought,

Won't see another one coming the opposite way ,that's for sure.
