I had to have the Lightning MOT'd Saturday and the guy said are you going to the classic car show in Radlett tomorrow. He was taking his 60's Cadillac.
I thought that maybe there would be 30 or 40 cars there. I took the 356. It was bloody mobbed. I could not believe it. Must have been over 300 cars there. Won best non american classic which was a nice surprise.
That was Bernie Chodosh's meet? - unfortunately clashed with CCCUK Nats over the same weekend. Didn't make that either!I thought that maybe there would be 30 or 40 cars there. I took the 356. Thought you chaps might be interested in this old pic of the C3 production line - I take the 'birdcage' is an integral part of the separate bodyshell...? (I thought it was part of the chassis and the body fitted over the top of it during construction)....
'Birdcage' is bonded in to body before lowering on to chassis - lower part of birdcage is a major structural component - body rests on 8 (I think) additional mounting points. Edited by roscobbc on Thursday 22 July 04:04

The pops in the roof sounds ominous ? if its close to the drip rails, its almost a certainty its roof metal corrosion , the whole water in the primer thing is generally boll----, for the last 30 years weve been using 2k/ epoxy type paints, which dont really absorb water, yeah water can get in the paint if the compressed air isnt properly trapped, but these days thats hard to believe!
These are old old cars, and almost all are corroded to some extent............................... unless they come from Southern California in which case only metal from Coventry rust's !
No, it's just generally on the flat surface, not near the edges in particular, and none near the drip rails.. I'll try and take a photo, but they hardly show up on pics. These are old old cars, and almost all are corroded to some extent............................... unless they come from Southern California in which case only metal from Coventry rust's !
I also took the left hand A pillar trim off to treat the rust, which I assumed would be just as bad as the other side. Erm, practically no rust. Go figure! Mind you, no surprise they do rust, there's bugger all paint on there, just a light mist of the original yellow. I painted all the edges with POR15 and left it at that.

I had a pushy like that too. I approached an old codger in our town about the 36 Ford fordor he has quietly rusting in his front yard,. He said he was keeping it for his grand kids (I knew them back then - they didn't want it...) but said he had an old pick up out the back. It was a 38 Ford Barrel nose. It had an elderberry tree growing through one door hand so must have been there 20+ years - going by the damage to the grill and rad we think he hit something driving home pissed and just parked it. I got another chassis, and swapped cab and suspension etc over, rebuilding and renewing as I went.. I scored the flathead V8 and Radiator out of a 48 Thames truck and got it running with that. Then one night I watched 'Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry' and saw a big ole Chev laying rubber at will and decided that was way cooler. I bought a 63 Belair not long after...
Here's the only photo I think I have of the two of them together with my brother and his mate with their home made nun-chuks. I knew when I sold it after just a couple of years I would regret it but that's life. Still, not a bad couple of cars to own when you're 18.

No, not bad at all. Anyone want to buy a black 68 Firebird? Runs great, spent quite a bit on it, nice paint (roof has some minor blisters)
Because, oof.

I would love an old yank, where's the best place to find one ?
Car and Classic - EBay - Facebook (many different groups on here selling Yanks and Hot Rods) - depends to a degree want your definition of 'an old yank' is really. Muscle, Pony, Vette, Coupe, Truck, 50's, 60's, 70's, Rod's- they are all sub genre's with their own following - generally brought together by the love of a V8 engine (whether 'cooking', small block, big block, tuned, blown, turbo'd or Nos'd. newsatten said:

Yeah hard to call from the pic, the paint looks more like Marmalade people in my trade masquerading as car painters when they should be serving up Maccy'ds ! ffs........................

It'll be sorted this winter, don't you worry. It's a shame, the paint elsewhere is like glass. My OCD would require a complete bare metal, Quality Echo Phos etch, them prime and refinish, or sell up and by the Beast of a car youve already put pics up of, Proper
Much as I love that one I linked to, £37k on a toy would be a step too far with the missus, it'd be cold dinner and silence for a bit.

Could be there's at least two people that really want it and it'll be a bidding war (shy's the limit in that case!)
