Furloughs and redundancies - yep, had the furlough thing mid year - took redundancy a couple of weeks ago - decided to 'leap' before being pushed......
Only got one vehicle to use now - the '68 Vette. Trying to minimise the use of it to perhaps one trip a week for heavier items that can't be 'walked' back from supermarket and making sure the journey is long enough to warm the car through properly. Its the rain that I want to avoid - like most T-Roofs it will 'drip' a bit at times. Its really the cleaning down after use thats the main issue - and making sure that its all dried out in the garage. The other issue when driving is the noise in the car, no not the engine noise - the ear wax melting noise of 'er indoors screaming every time a slippery drain or manhole cover causes the rear-end to 'step-out' a 'little'......

Bummer Rosco, your leary Vette in the wet and winter sounds scary! probably cant blame the other half for being apprehensive laugh

At my age if the company shuts down fully im guessing i'l be retired , but i suppose when/if the Vaccine gets to work some kind of normality
will return.......................
Think id go back to square one and buy a project car again, ive got the gear and the knowhow, Drive ways aint great for resto work but it can be done, ticks both boxes, gives me something to do hopefully earn a few quid !

Well see , we may keep going, theres only 7 of us left in Engineering now , im back on the bosses E on my return, and apparently im doing his MGA too? ............................................ lovely laugh

Thought she would be used to that side way motion by now. Sounds like your wife is a keeper ,most woman would be nagging you to get something more usable, she obviously knows what the car means to you.

A lot of guys have been dragged up the divorce courts for less.

Having such a valuable impractical toy like the Vette especially this time of year makes it so easy to be tempted into a

more practical toy, If it's to practical you will get bored with it and miss the rawness of the Vette.

Made do with one car myself after my divorce when i couldn't bear to part with that special car , although found it a lot easier to cope with in the summer .

That's probably how i got into the habit of buying cheap throw away daily's. Maybe that would be the answer if only for the winter.

Got away with it while living in town but got no choice than to have a reliable daily as i live in the middle of nowhere ,

Sounds like you will be going nowhere with the amount of cars your boss needs sorting out. He couldn't afford to let you go.

Christmas is over and Easter is next so working on the drive won't be so bad, just finding something worth while putting
a few hours into and make a few bob on.

The biggest problem might be finding worth while projects that don't need a full blown restoration.

Like most blokes i'm glad it's all over but we have found ourselfs in tear 4 lock down as from midday on Boxing day

so have had my wings clipped like you now .

Didn't get round to taking any of the cars out, took one look at the state of the roads outside my house and made

do with watching other's enjoying themselfs driving in sunnier parts on "You Tube", With the love of the sun and classics i ask myself what the fcensoredk am i doing here. Looking at your photo of the R/T with the California back drop doesn't help either, why am i not there.

Going to make a start on the MK 2 tomorrow and see exactly what i ve bought .

Live in hope that next year will turn it's self around and is better for everybody .

Glad to see someone taking their classic out in this weather, I make a problem for myself by doing a detail clean, i then don't

want to drive though the muddy lanes that surround me just to get to the main road which are usually dry..

Maybe i should only half clean them that would encourage me to drive them in this weather instead of being such a girl.

Have been known to wash a car in a layby as don't want to arrive at a show covered in mud then have to do it all over

again when i get home. No problem in the summer, just a bit dusty.

Looks like you were wright about mostly cars that need work coming out of the States ,looking at Dream Cars advert

they seem to have a lot of restorations for sale compared to their previous ads,

If they are having trouble bringing in nice cars for a profit with all their contacts there's not much hope for us

unless they've stashed them at home to join the rest of their collection.

Those wheels and tyres should transform the appearance and handling on the Challenger , but still be fun in damp ,

Have you fitted the rev counter yet , took me 2 days last one i fitted, everything that could go wrong did. could have fitted 3 clutches in the same time.

Attempted to make a start on the MK2 but ended up repairing a leak in the roof of the garage instead,

Try again tomorrow if it warms up a little.

No haven't got around to the Tach as yet, or the rear duck tail, it may get done over the next couple of days?

Yeah theres a few resto type cars for sale, they all seem far to pricey to me, ok if someone's going to do most of the work themselves then i guess some would be a goer. 30K seems to be quite common for something needing a resto eek its just scary what people will shell out!

Just been looking at a 69 Mach 1 on Ebay just shy of 110K and a 390 at 80K what are these people smoking ! the 390 has had a 30 over rebore and now a 440 laugh good grief .....................................................................................

There were a few cars out today, the weather was nice and sunny, saw a couple of TR's and a very early TVR, i was hoping to get out again tomorrow but its now raining again ! so thats buggered that laugh

Don't do a me just because you've detailed it, as long as there's no salt on the roads a bit of water not going to do any harm. .

If i was back in town i would use the cars with in reason no matter what the weather .

It's just the mud sticks to everything and is almost impossible to get off if left to dry.

If not capable of turning a screw the cost of any work could outweigh any profit so lucky you have the talent to turn a car around .

Those Mustangs just won't sell, not at those prices ,have noticed one or two fastbacks selling at around £50k but have taken forever

and chances are they were sold for less , Suddenly gen 1 Camaro's are looking good value at £25k/£30k along with

your Challenger for around £35k and rarer than most Mustangs.

Don't get me wrong i'd love another Fastback but not at the current prices, there's other cars out there i'd rather spend £50k plus on.

Don't know if you remember the white TVR Griffith 500 that was sold at HH Auction a few months ago that we all

thought sensible at around £18k and was advertised a week later for £25k ,it's still fore sale ,now at £22k so not so easy as it first looks.

£20k will probably buy it if not less if the seller needs it gone. .

For some reason the government have left Bournemouth alone and is still on tear 2 so going to see my mate who had all the Falcon's tomorrow

before they lock the whole country down after the new year , going to give him a hand with the Falcon convertible he's just bought as after

years of doing nut and bolt restorations single handed he can hardy hold a spanner, Sad really as he enjoys that part more than
driving .them.

Jag will have to wait, no rush just like to get it on the road and do all the small jobs while driving it.

Same woman that 45 years ago wouldn't have batted an eyelid at anything that ever happened as a passenger and owned and drove a couple of PB Cresta's and Mustang 11 302. She still thinks of the Vette as a POS lol! - Since all this Covid crap has kicked-in and with so few places to go and meet-up with liked minded enthusiasts its made me come to terms with whether or not I really need a daily driver that badly and perhaps trying to consider a vehicle as more of a pleasure 'thing'. Worked it out a couple of weeks ago that I have driven between 1.5 and 1.8 million miles over the last 45 years with much of that within the M25. I always used to say "I love cars - but hate driving" - but now I don't have supposed 'perk' of a company vehicle I'm actually struggling to put a case up to even be bothered to go but a cheap set of wheels as a local runaround........fortunately we are in Greater London and most local facilities are a 20 minute walk away and public transport (although potentially a Covid trap) is quite good.

Sounds like you were made for each other, car girls are a rare bread. In fact the American /Hot Rod shows are the few places i've seen

women enjoy themselfs as much as the men having such a good social side. On the other hand i had a couple drive 3 hours to view my

daughters 65 Mustang convertible that i was selling for her and the wife didn't even bother to get out the car to have a look ,

didn't even want go for a drive with us, remember thinking this poor guys got no hope of getting planning permission to buy this car ,

There was nothing not to like about the it as being my daughters i'd made sure it was up together, He said i'll talk to the wife on the way

home, no surprise i never heard from him again . The next guy along with his wife bought it on the spot ,I suppose there's people and people

Didn't realise you lived in London ,in that case you can get away without a daily, not sure i would want a car if i lived there ,Would

put as much money i could into a decent classic for the weekends or summer night cruising in the capital and hire a car when one was needed,

I use to do the Chelsea cruise back in the 70's until they herded us into the park along with the hatchbacks, then drove up to the bridge

a few times around 5 to 7 years ago but not been recently . Will try this summer all being well.

RR - problem with Chelsea Cruise is the actual 'getting there' - since the cycle lanes went in a few years ago access from the East (A13 and The Highway to Upper/Lower Thames Street) has been challenging, frequently with unannounced road works, diversions and marches/protests. It's almost worthwhile going to the Ace Cafe first in the afternoon and making your way over to the cruise later. Mind you getting to the Ace Cafe itself can be challenging enough.........

Always enjoy a couple of days in central London but couldn't live with all the traffic ,roadworks ect on a daily basis,

Somehow a little mud on the roads in the winter doesn't seem so bad ,

New Computer! so no pics for a few days! god i hate new things, thats probably why i like old cars! they may constantly try to kill ya in the wet, thats part of there charm, but they dont intimidate like all this tecky stuff !

Done some work on a very late transit before Christmas, it had a major hissy fit cos i unplugged the rear interior lamps! had the rear doors off and didnt want to flatten the battery , and as one cant just disconnect a battery these days , everything is a drama!!!

A Transit shouldn't be allowed to be complex, keep it simple, What's a matter with these people.

At least a old car will try to kill you at lower speeds unlike modern cars. Need to be doing silly speeds to get any sensation,

and then surprise you with a twitch or two ,be amazed how far you can travel sideways down the road at 120 being a passenger in your own car.

Drive a slow car fast or fast car slow comes to mind on todays overcrowded roads.

As you say not intimidating ,easy to hang the tail out at 40 with a little help from a heavy boot on relative narrow tyres by modern standards

opposed to low profile 295's that don't tell you nothing until your facing the wrong way.

Spent 2 days freezing my ass off under my mates Falcon, made good progress considering my age and the cold

but we really should be organised like the Swedes with underground heating ln there garages , Would have

achieved twice as much if i could have got warm. Lets hope it's dry and warmer when you do your

upgrades if you have to do them outside.

If and when things get back to some sort of normality we will appreciate what we had.

That's a bummer with the tach, are you going to fit it anyway or start again. suppose you can always E-Bay it,

Quote Rat Rod.-----------------------------

Ye saw that C1,looks stunning and original spec which i think buyers spending that type of money would want where the

other ones a bit of a Hot Rod with wrong engine, wheels, no hard top ,but it is 58 with the nicer rear end than the 61 on

Car and Classic plus the guy will take the Gallardo off me against the 58 when i can get the service book stamped and get my parts out of

Italy not helping with the factory flood, Christmas close down and now another Italian lockdown , . If T/A can come for £35k will be still

interested as needs work, Still think that's to much be they don't come any cheaper

these days unless a full restoration and not having your skills or patience it would end up like the Espada on the back of

several trailers. Now things have got worse here with unknown time span lockdowns, Christmas and new year hold ups add to that

a worse than usual winter gloom i'm going to just have to be patience tumbleweed and wait for things to come together in it's own time.

What do they say if it's got wheels or tits it's trouble.
