Always remember - if you go the banger route there is always residual value at the scrap yard of three or 4 hundred quid......even better they'll usually collect the car so you don't have to worry about having it being MOT'd, taxed or blown-up and taking it down to the yard.

Forgotten jem, big money in the States but the only place here you may see one is R.O.G ,

Love the pink/lavender one by the sea,then i would.thumbup
I had a closer look at the Continental Mark11 thats coming up at Bonhams. No photos other than frontal view. Its seemingly from the same (or a similar) source as some of the recent lots.....do overseas seller. No history. Not registered in UK. Not started. You need to pay 5% vat on import. Plus Bonhams £275 bond. Plus presumably auction fee. They have valued it from £15K to £20K. Would you????

I remember looking at it closely at the NEC and wondering how much it would cost to put it back into plain white etc, then my mate reminded me I had the Maser in the garage back home hehe

I shan't be looking at any more cars over the weekend as I've just bought a Fiat 500 for the Mrs!
Should make that work for you while your in her good books.

Possibly a good time to slip adding a yank to your fleet in conversation.scratchchin

PS---- Did you see number 27's video on the Masa.

Edited by rat rod on Friday 17th June 20:32
I won't push it that far - besides, we've run out of room now with two in the garage and two on the drive!

Yes saw the Maser on no.27, nice to see some De Tomaso era stuff getting the attention and some positivity wink

Loving the green Corvettes being posted since yesterday beer

This is where the 'hobby' has gone wrong?

I can see a rare Muscle car getting £50K, but not a clone no matter how well its done...

Taking a picture with an aircraft in the background makes me feel all weird...

A 1974 318 Cuda with a poorman's 383ci is not a 'muscle car' they phased them out in 1971...

Thats hemi money...

A good mate of mine has a mint one in grey metallic, imported it 5 or 6 years back, he’s probably in it £50k, he looked at several before pulling the trigger on his, they are expensive to restore, the bits, if you can find them are very expensive, there always seems to be a few unrestored ones about cheap, probably better to buy a nicer one in the long run unless you’re pretty hands on and can do a lot of the work yourself
Thing is......over here in UK........no one would really know what they are and the significance of them........perhaps far better off with the best 'Bird of the same period.

Err yeah nothing exciting, my wife’s daily!
Unlikely anything will come of it as late used stuff is almost as ,expensive than new cars ffs!

We’re now considering something a bit older
And talking a chance ,
At least you can fix it yourself if any problems,to many people obsessed

with needing to have the latest registration in the street and even more electrics

you can't mend yourself.,

Can't believe the price of these scrap cars now ,my mate got almost a grand for 3 cars and one had the

engine out but went with it, Only got £55 for my Xantia diesel a couple of years ago,

paid £275 for it to drive for that winter, ended up keeping it for over 4 years and never failed a mot

but must admit it was getting a little tatty and even my mates were embarrassed to be seen in it,

My logic was if any bill was more than £100 i would scrap it and get another ,

Always drove high end bangers ,gives me more to spend on classics and where i am a bit of a big

girl fussing over them i couldn't care less where i leave it ,only gets washed a day before the mot

and the boys can get as muddy as they like in the winter months , driving

My laddo had one of those Xantia things years ago - it was a diesel, it had zillions of miles on it and perhaps unusually for a high mileage oil burner once warmed-up was really quiet.......he would leave it in out in the street - all the derv leaks made a mess underneath and he would have to start-up 10 minutes before driving and wait for the suspension to pump-up. A nothing car - no money - no one would nick it - his 'Sh*troen' as he called it!......

The night i bought my Xantia i never though she would be still with me over 4 years later.

Even had 6 months road tax (in the days when it could be passed on to the buyer)

a years mot included all for £275,

Intending to keep it the remainder of the winter but i got use to it's comfort , ran on fresh air and

drove it all over the country.

The Alfa GTA i bought to replace it became so unreliable with it's weekly visits to the local specialist

i had to keep the Citroen taxed and mot'd as back up, Almost praying it would miserably fail mot's just

to give me the excuse to replace it but it never did, Even the Citroen main agents were friendly and helpful

getting the spare parts within 24 hours, Always tempted to buy another one when i see a low mileage 1/2 owner

car fore sale ,might even do that if a estate scratchchin

Sorry , bad enough listening me rattling on about Italian cars ,now French ones ,rolleyes

Never got to Beaulieu American car show today,

Being organised for once i went to my local petrol

station last night with the Camino save me stopping in the

morning , Went to leave this morning and noticed the car a bit

lopsided in the garage , rear off side tyre was completely flat,

found a nail embedded in it that wasn't there before i got the petrol yesterday ,

Should have left it to last minute like i usually do.

Put a can of tyre stuff in it and pumped the rest up with my compressor

but didn't want to take a chance ,another job tomorrow,

Could have gone in one of the Rods but my mate phoned to say it's no

longer sunny and there's a few drops of rain and with thunder storms forecast

i lost interest , nono

The real trick one would have been a previously properly maintained XM saloon or wagon - upper range models have that trick level levelling anti-yaw systems that would give a nice soft, almost Yanks type ride on the level but soon as a tight corner came-up the suspension would change from boulevarde cruiserm, firm right up and corner like a sport cars. The only downside I suppose was a noisy, smelly 4 or 6 cylinder diesel.

Yes, I did get there for a couple of hours, got there about 11am and bumped straight into Jim Turnbull after walking in. Left about 1pm, and stopped off in Dibden Purlieu on way back to visit an uncle and a cousin for a few hrs before heading home...as my uncle's is getting on a bit now, and I'd not seen him for 4 years.

My Citroen 'daily' van got me to and from my unit, which was 50 miles away!

Ten years of reliable service and 50 mpg...

I was hoping to re-invigorate Mopars in Kent (Ashford area).

Plenty of Mopars around, but few ever came for 'tea and a chat'.
Got some work from Essex and Norfolk lol...

The Mustang guys were getting all the work and all the Kudos in Kent!

I struggled on for ten long years and finally got the boot from the Landlord.
Said ''he didn't want scrap American cars in his Units''???

Oh well, even two Chargers, a 66 Dodge Polara and a 71 GTX seemed like 'junk' to him...

Plain Jane and the 2.0 HDI is a very quick engine indeed...

The most fun we had was a 'sleeper' 512ci in my Moparmates Polara!

Should have seen the looks on the Hotrod guys at the last Shakey HR Drags...

Low 13.00 second quarters 'in drive' in full street trim...

Still got 15mpg (950 cfm carb) and everyone thinks it was a 383ci 'two barrel' car lol...

He ran the car at the POD with a 'large 20-stone passenger' and it still ran 13.20, how cool is that...

A powerful engine can also be an efficient engine - problem for many people is that they take their 'power' quest just a little bit too far in the quest for that last extra bit of power and 'tip over the edge' in terms of fuel economy and lose the power/ecomomy 'balance'. Some of Chevy's HO smal blocks 'of the day' were rated at 350 hp, even 370 hp, powerful for the time and very close to lower spec' BB's.......but then compare fuel consumption with a big block and often you'll see similar economy (and performance).
When the 489 cu in stroker engine in my Vette was built up (some ten years or so ago now by John Sleath) it recorded the the highest naturally aspirated torque of any engine he had built to date (606 ft/lbs)...............until he did a very similar build-up on a couple of Mopar 440/496 stroker engines for two Jensen clun members. They had a about 20 ft/lbs more than mine. Not sure about economy on those lumps but I can also squeeze 15/16 mpg out of the 950 DP carb........
