Only a day to go on this '56 Continental 11 - no reserve - currently up to £5700........rare, unusual and undervalued car (here in UK anyway) - highly unlikely to see one at any show........a few years ago and I'd have gone for it!

This got £12450 today - don't know what totals were with all the other additional 'strap-on' fees that applied to this seemingly non running vehicle.
No buyers fee's with "The Market " the seller pays the commission,

On the face of it looked a good deal,
However it’s what lies beneath, what are you actually buying?
Definitely one for a committed aficionado,

Prices seem to be holding up pretty well for European stuff,
The yanks are now taking a serious hit , absolutely loads of unsold stuff out there,
All those rubbish turds requiring a full restoration will be hit hardest,
Material cost has gone through the roof, quality paint is 100 quid a litre , plus Hardner plus clear,
A full all over repaint is going to be 2K just for the paint!
It’s the perfect storm for restoration shops,
Spiralling costs and falling residuals ,

It’s getting though out there yes

slightly, well more than slightly off topic

I was gifted a ticket to the London Concours for preview and judging day on Tuessday after helping collate one of the categories, not normally my thing and i dont normally do London but a free £50 ticket and the promise of some spectacular cars got the better of me.

Some tasty motors, the Packard i nearly bought myself last year in a deal with another car, wish i had after seeing, the pics dont do the 58 Cadillac 4 door justice, after a 3000 hour resto its better than new and won its class, the rolls pick up was amazing and specially built for the Bamford JCB guy, the other car i liked was the Toyota GT which won best of show. I didnt take a lot of pics but heres a few of my faves, hope you dont mind and hope you enjoy

Thought you said you didn't take many photo's ,

Wow,glad you did ,thanks , As much as i love to see the high end million pound European stuff

those yanks still do it for me ,

Mostly Dream Cars collection ,love the Packard they bought from Marcus but they don't seem to

have the following over here like in the States,

Does the black Chrysler still belong to Mark or is that Dream Cars as well.

Big money now but deservedly so.

Wow that’s some collection on show there, plenty of variety too. Pretty sure the gunmetal coupe behind the Roller pick up in the ninth photo down is a Maserati A6G 2000, possibly one of the Allemano built ones.

That Lotus Elan +2 shooting break is probably the same one I saw in Shepard’s Bush a few years ago, there are only two of them so it’s highly likely.

Sarah Bradley and Ben Klemenzon put together the Fins and Chrome section, i helped them early on with some of the selection but in the weeks leading up to the event they had a few cars pull out, i think the Packard was always in the mix but Dream Cars offered a few more cars last minute to keep it together. Spending the day there i would say the American section got the most interest, i think the sheer size of the big cruisers always astounds people.

I think Mark still owns the Chrysler, a stunning car. I was in discussion with Marcus re buying the 56 Packard and a 60 Caddy Convertible a couple of years ago mid covid as a package deal but he sold the Cadillac to someone else and i went off the boil with the deal, at the time the Packard had iffy brakes and needed an exhaust and i decided i didnt want to get involved, my loss as he sold it very cheap, well below what he'd advertised it at

Ye i guessed that might be the case,he said he had next to no interest in the Packard,

Shame as it's a stunning car .

I think the boys bought my old 54 Buick Special convertible along with the Packard.

Yes Mark still owns the Chrysler. I believe got a trophy for second place.
Engine is in the Griff. Had some teething problems a month or so ago but all got sorted.
Ran it properly at SPA last weekend and finished 2nd.
The carbs are running way to rich particularly at the lower rpm's making exiting the chicane and La Source a real headache.
Next outing is Silverstone Classic but need to get the fueling sorted or I will get annihilated through turns 3 and 4 or st 1 and st 2 as most people call them

The Buick ended up in Sweden i believe, i saw it on Gunnars lot out there
These cars certainly get around,Here's some history of the car if any interest to anyone I bought the Buick

from a guy in Sunbury on my way out of London

bought a free ads when getting petrol in Fleet services , there it was £8,500 ,ended up going back up the M3

and bought it for £8K, poor guy was devastated to sell it but he had got his 20 year old girlfriend pregnant

which his wife wasn't to happy about and was divorcing him ,he was 45 at the time, for some reason he changed the

colour from it's original pale yellow to black.

Sold it to a lovely eccentric artist who i sold my C2 roadster to ,he lived by the river Thames just 5 miles up the road from where i bought it ,

Ended up buying it back a couple of years later along with a 46 Buick coupe and a Standard 10,

Sold it again to a guy in Stevenage who's dad had left him some money , always drove bangers and was the first decent car he had ever

bought ,just kept on saying "I can't believe i now own that car "

Great feeling selling him the car ,never seen anyone so happy.

Marcus ended up buying it from him ,only because he had met a woman and was moving in with her up the north and had no garage ,

It's first owner was a lady from Nebraska so woman seem to be paying it's part in this Buicks destiny ,

Cool to know the history on a car. I've never met Marcus but spoken to him on the phone many times about each others cars we've been interested in, not had a deal yet unfortunately, the Cadillac/Packard deal was probably the closest we've come, i think if it hadnt had been mid Covid we would have got the deal done. He seems more into his RR and Bentley than the American stuff in recent years
He seems to have fallen out of love with his yanks considering he had so many,

He even bought a new Lamborghini Aventador but i don't think it was him as he didn't keep it long.

Was going to call in to see him when i was going to Edinburgh to get my Gallardo service book stamped

but i ended up taking a chance and put it in the post instead ,Like you i was interested in the 60 Caddy convertible

but Classic Automobiles who use to be in Armoury Way in Wandsworth bought it.

Ended up on the Car and Classic Auction in the end ,sold for £49,500 after the sale.

they were being cheeky and asking £79,500 relail but i expect you already know that scratchchin

Shame as I really like a 60 Caddy.
Following on from that and the Larry Watson paint jobs, a guy I knew in San Jose back in the mid 2000's, had this great '62(?) Caddy with a mild kustom job and Larry Watson-esque paint job, all done by himself. Sadly he was a naughty boy, and ended up in the state pen in 2010.

I still use the phrase, dreaming back then , dreaming now!
Lol

Looked at the B’ yesterday, yep its a turd!
A good turd , but still a turd!

Made the seller an offer, waiting for an answer
We’re To far apart so Im guessing it will be no,
But that’s ok as I’m not making his problem my problem,

It’s got power steering which is very very nice
Makes the car a doddle to shunt about,
Absolutely perfect Hairdressers motor,
My Wife’s quite keen for me to buy it,

Never thought a B as a hairdressers car ,more tweed .

That power steering will make all the difference ,make it feel smaller

than it is,the standard steering hard word for a small car actually making

it feel bigger than it is.

Your wife will love it .Always find it gets them more interested in our hobby ,

not sure if's that's a good thing or not,my brothers wife has now taken up golf

so no more after drinks with the boys in the club house for him.rolleyes
