Don’t get me started on S series Bentleys, I love ‘em!

The Toronado and Caddy in those pics are just gorgeous, I think even now the Toronado still looks futuristic. Those of a certain age might recall the Gerry Anderson series ‘UFO’ from 1969 / 70, two Toronados were featured in a couple of episodes being driven down country lanes near Elstree on the wrong side of the road to make them look even more chic than they already were.
I dare not start talking Bentley/Rollers as i will get banned from this yank forum ,l'm amazed they put up with me

whittling on about Italian stuff , Got a soft spot for them ever since i bought my first S1 Bentley when only 19,sounds flash but i only

paid £550 for it ,followed by R Types, MK 6's for similar money and only paying £2,500 for my first Cloud 3 from a local farmer.

Still got the original S series and Cloud catalogues and Laurence Dalton Rolls Royce books,

later in life having 3 Corniche's, 1 Bentley convertible , 1 Rolls convertible and a Rolls coupe, Would kill for a Chinese headlight

convertible like the one in "There's a Girl in my Soup" film which Peter Sellers drove, or the Flying Spur that Peter Wyngard in" Department S

Sorry i'll shut up now as i think i've bored everybody with this waffling before but it's your fault for saying that you loved them to, not many on

here do apart from rosco.

You really have got a good memory, the previous owner tagged me on FB when I saw it there and he has sent me a load of pics from when he owned it and sure enough the pic you describe is there, next to a tatty caravan. He has a very faded Imp next to it too.

He said the engine blew when he had it and he replaced that (didn't rebuild the bust one). He has lots of pics of burnouts but I don't know which engine that's on. He also said it's a £10k car max in his view. It seems to have had a lot of basic stuff done (new brakes/pipes/hoses etc) and the paint is new(ish). But if it's not going to be easy to sell on when I'm ready for a change then that goes against it really. Shame, it's quite a decent-looking car (imo!).
There's a bum for every seat just some you got to wait longer than others. The 63/65 Riv is a expensive car now if in nice condition so

that makes room for the 66/69 cars,Sounds like you can do any spanner work so less of a problem for you and could turn it around

and make a car of it and a profit hopefully to finance the next one. If close worth a look .
Thanks for that view, I like the optimism! Yes, I'm up to fixing most stuff really unless it gets into electronics & ECUs (sorry, can't help with the Lambo!) and this Riviera is only a mile or two from my new hobby workshop, so maybe that's fate scratchchin

That Chinese Eye HJMPW on Bangers was lovely......have a soft spot for Mulliner stuff as a school mate of mine, his father owned a cash n carry opposite the Hythe Rd factory, and I also had a pre-apprentice application tour around the place in 1979 before leaving school with a view to being a Mulliner apprentice.

Surprised the number of closet RR and Bentley fans there are, especially on a yank forum,

Nice surprise watching Bangers & Cash when the pair of Bentleys appeared, haven't seen that episode before,

Lovely old boy owner ,always a shame when you think your to old to have these toys.

Don't know the outer part of London very well but i remember sitting outside Hammersmith Hospital waiting for my dad

and a lot of Rollers drove by in that time ,most with only half a body on, is Hythe Road anywhere near Chisick or Hammersmith.

and is it still open, would have loved to have a nosy round the place.

Funny rods and Rollers shouldn't overlap but i was at the Victory Wheelers Hayling Island show one year in my Roadster

and a guy who worked for Rolls Royce in the customer care department and asked if we would like to go for a factory tour the

following weekend, He invited around 20 or so Hot Rods and yanks , turned out he was building a 32 Rod himself,

My nipper followed us in a small convoy with his Herbie beetle he had at the time

Got looked after by some really nice people and then topped off by having some lunch at the Goodwood circuit

A bonus as there was a track day going on as well with lots of high end stuff there and they seemed to love it when the Rods came into

the pit area with lots of photo's taken and a barrage of questions being asked, Different people but all car guys.

Hythe Road is just north of Old Oak Common railway depot in North West London on the north side of the canal, technically it's probably in the parish of Willesden. Not that far away was Wood & Pickett's premises in Park Royal and Harold Radford's place in King Street, Hammersmith. I used to live in Cromwell Road at the west end of King St and walked past the Radford place on the way to work (at Old Oak), but by then it had become a yank car dealer, often with a Firebird or Camaro inside behind the glass. Radford worked on many Rolls Royces in their time, along with customising Mini Coopers and fitting the highly customised interiors to the batch of thirty three road going Mk1 GT40s. Both Radford and W&P used the open grassland between Old Oak Common and Wormwood Scrubs for photo shoots before sending cars back to their owners.

Well at least I mentioned yanks somewhere in that lot!

It's not exactly nearby, but its not that far away, but if they were coming from Crewe factory, they would have gone to Mulliner's via the M1 or M40, as Hythe Rd is just north of Wormwood Scrubs Prison, on the north side of the GWR yard at Old Oak Common, so unlikely they were heading to Mulliner from Crewe via M4 and Hammersmith, unless already done another drop off elsewhere?

Sadly Mulliner's closed down around 1990-ish IIRC, and the site was turned into a massive Car Giant used car sales warehouse. The factory building still exists, and a small amount of its former splendor can be seen in the form of the old main entrance....

After some fairly dubious quality servicing from an independant 'specialist' on my late father in laws Shadow 1 (then barely 10 years old) he had all subsequent servcing done by Rolls Royce's depot at School Road Acton. Collecting the car from there was always an eye opener. So many of the cars being serviced (from all years) only had mileage built-up from the previous years annual service. So many cars to die for.......

I think we are pushing our luck well at least i am,I do remenber looking into Radfords but wouldn't

be able to find it again even if they were still there, Trying to think of the American Car Sales that you are referring to,

I remember Cliff Davis in Goldhawk Rd close to where Straight Eight was, also The American Car Centre in Kingston,

A very distance memory was going to Lincoln Garage the American Ford Centre in Brentford near the Gillette Building,

was with my dad in his 55 Fairlane, must have been sometime in the 60's ,

When in London use to visit the classic car dealers in the mews off Cromwell Rd ,

Great seeing all those vintage Bentleys, Alfa's ,D Types and Maserati's 250 F's all on display with the doors wide open

a contrast to today's high security showrooms, A mate of mine who also lived on the Cromwell Rd remembers seeing 50's

single seater racing cars being driven out of the mews onto the Cromwell Rd and around the block to clear there throats

Must have been great living there right in the hub of the action in that era.

What a huge building, at least they haven't demolished it and put up a block of yuppy flats,

These Rollers were driving by on a regular basis on trade plates with some with just the bulkhead and no body at all,

Probably would be on the back of a truck these days, Did sell my Bentley Corniche to Frank Dale when they were near Hammersmith/Fulum

Nice friendly lot and tried to sell a couple more cars for me one being The Ray Mumford custom Shadow .

Never been to their Brentford premises and i think the guys i delt with have died as they were getting on a bit then.

Now that lock down is over i must get up to London for a mooch about the showrooms but it's probably all

changed again and not for the better.,

Wish i'd thought of that, the best of both worlds.

Would love to see the faces on the Rolls Royce Enthusiast Club

members if i turned up to one of their concours meeting in that.

What a picture that would be. yikes

We've got 2 large Rolls specialists near me,one in Bournemouth and another in Chichester and had to go to both

as i had a 20/25 bumper to sell from a barn find one that i had some years ago and the guy who bought it forgot to take it.

Not being dishonest i did contact him but he didn't want it as he had already sold the chassis to someone in Scotland

and the body to someone in Cornwall or may have been the other way round, anyway found myself with a rear bumper

to sell, Both places were like Aladdin's Cave full of coach built cars from all over Europe and even the USA,

Can't believe how many rare classic cars must be sat all over the world waiting for work.

Has your father-in-law still got the Shadow ,really nice early cars prices have at last seem to have picked up.

Ray Mumford, that's a blast from the past!

Well remember French Connection Mustang and the mural's he did on the Bullitt Mustang that Street Machine did the floppy 45rpm record of it that they gave away in the magezine.
